Adam Silver: League looking at remedies for players requesting trades early in their contract

Do you think a remedy exists to prevent early trade details?

As a fan of basketball the SPORT I didnt like it . At first

But the nba is not just a sport. It’s entertainment and a business and I wish the players well.

These owners have no loyalty so why should the players . They’ve proven time and time again that they will do you wrong given the best possible scenario. So fukk ‘em :yeshrug: .

I think they should let it rock I think the pay off in ten years will be well worth it. I think players swapping teams frequently will shake up the game and nba. Just throwing out a hypothetical random names at the top of my head

imagine ja doesn’t win and leaves Memphis and links up with Zion and Tatum for the lakers and in the east we have luka , giannas and booker on the knicks and those teams spilt up and another team is in the finals . Next year it’s two totally diffenrt teams. Gms working overtime every off season putting together a roaster that can compete in this new marketplace . It will be a disaster and miracle and I like the idea of that chaos. No more runs where the same teams win over and over .

And just make incentives for the players who don’t swap teams and request trades
While all this is happening, Golden State will cruise to another 2-3 titles.

The league is designed for the fan to not care about the team at all, yet when that manifests itself, Adam Silver feels a way about that. He wants the kind of fan that rides for their team, but will ride just as hard for a particular player too like in soccer and that only works but so well in America. Fans are more likely to tune the team out if they're not good.

I think adam silver should focus more on the current trend of players sitting out multiple games during a season more so than players being traded around

That’s partly on the owners as well. Let’s not act like teams aren’t willingly sitting out healthy players to tank or keep them healthy so they can get traded. A lot of the blame that owners place on the players can be placed on themselves as well.

So a player should force a trade at anytime. if its cool the owner can pay players to stay home
In Wall's case, it wouldn't have made a difference. No one wanted him at that cap hit. Giving him 30mpg to justify his salary would have created bigger problems.

Players are gonna do what they do because they don't really wanna go to free agency anymore. Leaving a team with nothing is a hollow threat when the team you really wanna sign with doesn't have the money to sign you. Most guys want all the extras that come with signing a max with the original team before they decide they wanna go somewhere and GM's are scared of agencies.

They should do their best to honor contracts, but that's between the player and the FO. Since the FO can freely trade a player despite the contract, I don't see too much of a problem with a player requesting a trade themselves. The FO doesn't have to cave, after all.

Maybe FOs should start tacking on No Trade clauses for their own benefit? :yeshrug:

Nope. The whole thing about no trade clauses is a fallacy. Technically Beal has one, but let's keep it 100. Any time a player asks out, he's got a list of preferred destinations. Why? To all but guarantee that some random squad doesn't even make an attempt. That's a de facto no trade clause.

Maybe they should have a Yes Trade clause where the only destinations are Indianapolis and Cleveland. :mjlit:

Tell they asses no and if they dont play they just dont get paid :what:

This.

If you have 4 years left you shouldn't just change your mind and want out and get your way all the time. Many teams shape their squad based on you signing for 4 years and would have done things differently otherwise. If you don't want to play with 4 years left then don't but also don't expect to be paid

So what about what Utah is doing with Donovan and Gobert? Didn’t Donovan and Gobert have multiple years left on their deal? Adam needs to fall back

This doesn't even need to be a discussion.

Player is under contract. If they ask for a trade, team either says no or they look for one if they think it's in the best interest of the team.

I think the issue thats being missed here is they're saying they need to find a solution to players asking for a trade early on. Why you got an issue with players asking? People really don't like these players having power and feeling like they have a right to manage their own career direction.

It's the same old "shut up and dribble" rhetoric.
