Also it’s a bit ironic that when this thread was made OKC and Houston were the two tanking teams the basketball world was fed up with, now they’re the top two seeds in the West. You think their front offices regret tanking? :skip:

The discourse started because of Philadelphia’s “process” 12 years ago. And look at them now

the discourse has always been around since we started publicly acknowledging that some teams are bad for business.

OKC and Houston at least had a plan in mind long term. Philly never did besides stockpiling talent wherever and ignoring the human element altogether.

Like any other method to build a team, some will fail some won’t :manny:

And tanking was in the NBA long before Hinkie’s process, it just didn’t have a catchy nickname

And if we want to be honest with Philly their biggest mistakes have been in their FA signings - Tobias Harris, Horford, PG

Using the Philadelphia 76ers for any measurement of anything is your first mistake. Literally any other team would have succeeded with the way we had things lined up. We're a special case of its own:mjlol:

Which team is tanking that you think should be trying their hardest to win 30 games?

If I’m a Philly fan I’d much rather tank a lost season than try to maybe get the 10 seed in the play in then lose your pick to OKC

This is a fault of the trading 'protections', which I hate.

If Philly owes OKC a 1st round pick over the next 2-3 years, then OKC should get to decide if they are taking their own pick after the draft lottery. That could cut down on tanking if you dont know if you will keep your pick or not.

Heard a recent podcast that talked about way to cut down on this. There is no clear winner of a way to do it. Cut down the revenue share. Make the lottery a 2 year rolling average for record. The top 2 picks go to #4 and #5, bottom 3 get #3-#5. We gotta figure something out, cause its out of hand.

Or we just have to accept that if you’re a team that’s bound to miss the playoffs you stand more to gain by winning 20 games than 30 :manny:

Like sure New Orleans could try to play Zion & CJ in as many games as possible down the stretch to give them a better chance to win but when you’re not going to make the playoffs regardless, what’s the point?

Poor owners was trading dem picks for cash. shyt was hilarious.
More like dumb desperate owners not thinking long term. Pretty much all them #1 picks for Lakers and Celtics came from trades where teams would trade future firsts with no protections for some past prime former all star.

yeah, that doesnt really work overall. It doesnt help TV (who is paying the lion's share of the money), nor your local fans (like season tickets holders like myself), nor anyone who is picking a one off game to see Zion or LeBron or Steph to play since they come to your town one time a year.

All of your local sponsors, and fans arent just going with 'whats the point'. The ticket prices that these teams are charging are not 'whats the point' pricing.
Then why does the teams play at all?
