This my third week in the plumbing Union, I have my training center interview next week

I had Votech in high school and I wish the workin life was explained more

Office life sucks but in trades it's a different, no HR so you have to know when to stfu but still stand up for yourself, hot physical work

I def need to get my muscles up cuz I had trouble holding this hog ass hammer drill

I dgaf what race my journeyman is as long as they teach me...my foreman is an old white dude but he is very patient

I def am going to start working out so I can step my game up...cuz right now I suck at drilling through dirt to make holes for the pipe

I'm 27, wish I started earlier

u doing good bro. Don't worry the hole hog gets easier. Be aware that those bits get dull and they should be sharpened every week. Buy yourself a 3 sided metal file and hit the blade AND the outside edges of those bits. It'll save your arms.

Sure, but keep in mind that most Africans leave in cities and apartments. They do not hire Carpenders, so other Africans can not do this. Trade is only for a small number of us

All our business were black people.

There's ALWAYS a need for a carpenter. Whether you want an additional room, roof leaks, new windows, new door, brick mailbox, foundation caving in. Pops would tell me he had more work than he could do. It was hard finding good help.

I think every city has almultiple Unions (carpenter, electrician, plumbing, sheet metal, etc). Hit those up as they're always taking applications and they'll put you to work asap.

I was fresh outta jail and hit the sheet metal Union on a Friday. They had me working Sunday.

The trades are good because they don't care about your record long as it isn't rape or child molestation. That's what my supe on my first job told me. Hell, everyone from the workers to management were felons!

Black people are told to either go to college or face death. You might as well fall of the the face of the earth if your "goal" at some point (usually the earliest convenience possible) is not wanting to get a degree (any degree). College is the only object of legitimized attainment for most people, especially for black folks.


I'm saving up some money to take some courses in a trade.

Don't forget railroad jobs fireman ent paramedics eviromental techs stormwater workers wastewater workers...it's more than the traditional trades but they are all good. Elevator techs.........

We need an assortment of black tradesmen simple to be able to call black to do the jobs needed. Take these crackers money and stimulate us. Never know my kid may need a quick gig and he can depend on his people.
