Are people asking for too much now? I'm sorry but a $15 minimum wage is still too low...

It's so much money out here. Go to community college. Can't pay for it? Get a Pell Grant. Not the college type? Go to trade school, they start you off at $15-$18 as an apprentice. Truck drivers out here making $6k a month. Then there's IT where you studying on your own time and taking tests. I done read dudes getting certs and making $70k within one year

I keep telling folks they can go back to school for free off the Pell Grant. It's a gang of 2 year degrees that bring in guap:wow:

I only make $17, but this is entry level and I ain't flippin burgers. Bout to go back to school next year so I can quadruple that. We hungry out here, I ain't tryna be poor my entire life:feedme:
Basic supply and demand breh.. Jobs pay more if there aren't enough people to fill them. They pay less when there's an over supply of bodies. What do you think the trucking sector is gonna look like in 7-10 years? IT is a mess, yes you can make that jump to $70k in 18 months, but 9/10 don't have the tenacity, and the grind the make it to that level and that's after you land your first job, not accounting for the time you needed to put in to land your first job.

Everyone upskilling and acquiring the same set of skills also lowers the pay for the that field. Not to mention there's plethora of reasons why poor people won't be able to complete these courses, why they don't have access to higher level education and why it's priced as a luxury. There are a lot more factors at play here that caused this broken system to get to this point, the minimum wage issue is just one of the areas where it's a lot easier to visualize.

Also, people saying all they have to do is x and y, because it worked for you need to be careful, with survivor bias. For every 1 of you that make it there's 9 who try and fail. If only 1 in 9 are able to transcend classes, from poverty to "not poverty" that's on the system, not the people.

Those adults don't have motivation to move up. Mcdonald's has a lot Corporate positions that pay salary. They also offer to pay for some of your tuition for school. How many folks take advantage of that program?
