When are you going back?

prolly next year. i'm trying to expand the business i work for to get down there but i took over in a time of crisis so it's a slog right now. cant even think of international dealings when i have the local branch to get back in shape. you?

I don't know if he a snake oil salesman at least in that article but it works though at least for him. Most people don't put in the time and then will say stuff don't work. I also have to disagree about Tim Ferriss being full of shyt cause Ive used things from his books to success so I can co sign that but don't want to derail this thread with that either. Just think its a case by case basis and depending on your level of success with something influencing how you look at someone's word.

i dont know much about tim ferriss, although he seems like he's a bullshytter, but he doesn't know anything about foreign languages. i dont believe for a second he speaks those languages he mentions to a degree of fluency that would satisfy any native speaker, linguist, or teacher.

the lewis guy is just inherently wrong, there is science of applied linguistics, anatomy, and neurology that goes against almost everything he says. he's like the Wake Up Now of language "teachers"

i see it EVERY DAY, clients come into my office and can do all of the small talk really well, and then when you ask them intellectual or critical questions, they fumble all over the language. i've fooled people myself into thinking i was better at a foreign language than i really was. that's how this works - familiarity breeds comfort, when you're in a foreign country you meet someone new every day, and you get really good at introductory conversations. then you step foot in a party or classroom and are lost.

SP got restaurants and museums till the end of time, just don't try to see too much at one time. it will overwhelm you.

I asked you going by this article where it doesn't seem like he's selling anything or giving out alot of free stuff how you could come to that conclusion. I don't know anything outside of this article about boy and if you say you mentioned stuff outside of this article previously my bad. I don't think telling anybody get to know somebody before speaking on them is injecting emotion at all but apparently you do so . I also think in your defensiveness and or my lack of clarity you got confused. I don't give a shyt what you think about Ferriss cause it won't change my opinion of him. I just said he stuff has worked for me so I disagreed with you on that. I was talking about the language guy for all that stuff your mixing up. The article I posted has a bunch of free stuf I there Thats why you keep with this subscription stuff when 90% of the stuff in this article is free or of little cost. Again I'm only speaking on this article.

Yes I did lump you in with the "y'all" because its too often people think you coming at their neck or some silly stuff when there would be no need for it. Its almost like alot of people on here are used to people coming at them sideways and that's not what I was trying to do at all. You just misunderstood what I was saying about the "hood" talk. Ill take some blame in that too for not being clear apparently. Also the "I think" can't really be fact unless stated as such. Its just another way of saying IMO for me cause if I knew for sure I wouldn't say I think I'd say something more concrete that I can bring up strong facts to back me up. I truly hope that last line isn't supposed to be some type of "I'm living it" shot. If so shame on you and if not my bad cause I was just trying to help like you and have a discussion on a disagreement.

I think it would be better to learn Spanish not Portuguese. There are more Spanish-speaking countries, and there are equally hot girls in Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. It can also help you if you want to live in Spain if you want to live in a 'safe', developed country.

There isn't really any spanish speaking countries that are making any moves in the future though. If you learn Portuguese, you have Brazil and Angola which are 2 emerging markets.

There may be more Spanish speaking countries, but not a single one is approaching Brazil's economy and most importantly there will be more Brazilians in the future actively trying to learn English. You won't find a larger Spanish speaking country either, Brazil is 200 million deep.

I spent most of my time in Lapa at night, it is a area that has a lot of bars and a few clubs....meet women on copa beach during the day. Do you speak any portuguese? Hopefully somebody else can give you more insight on Rio because I would like to know myself.

im from the US, but i was adopted by brazil

it is a pretty big story, for a couple reasons. for one, wealthy brazilians find themselves allied with left wingers, many of whom were rolling with dilma until recently when she started fraudin it up (she used to be a marxist rebel with an AK), so that's a weird combo. also, she caught fire when campos died in a crash a month or two back - he was the previous #1 challenger to dilma. she's kinda like obama in that she came outta nowhere, is from an undistinguished family and is (part) black. but she has a bit of tea party in her too, in that she's cast herself as a rebel and is conservative about social issues.

honestly, brazilian politics are a bigger mess than american politics. Lula, dilma's political godfather, was once the working class rebel coming to save brazil from corruption and feed the masses with benevolent socialism, but he turned out to be a nucky thompson type, and dilma went from brrrrap rebel down for the cause to establishment tool. after seeing lula and obama turn out to be staunch centrists, im about it all
