They'd be shooting themselves in the foot to fade out theatrical (long form) releases. They're spending a ridiculous amount on this. Say what you will about Netflix price hikes, but they actually spend that money on content. They realize they can't spend like they have since the late 00's, and raise prices, without giving the consumer something. So why would they cut out theatres, despite being the overall (not counting COVID) leader of the theatre industry being on hard times? I do see them using their model of what they cancel vs. what gets multiple seasons as far as dictating what is straight to streaming, short theatrical run, or full run. Ironically, they have Warner's straight to streaming model, during the pandemic, to learn from.

Its over when they starve AMC and Regal even further, then buy them out of bankruptcy, and open Netflix theaters with a $40/month membership fee you can add to your netflix membership, bringing your total to $99.99/mo, with ads

I can see this happening but the good thing is shyt about to be easier to pirate.

Literally two disastrous options for who would own WB.

This would officially end HBO as the quality show/movie making network it's become known for.

They’ll probably be good until their current deal expires but after that I’m sure WWE has a clause in place that Netflix can’t air any other wrestling promotions under their umbrella.
I mean lets be honest, if Netflix decides to carry it just to have live wrestling everyday of the week whats WWE gonna do? They can't so better than Netflix.

ESPN has something similar, they air both UFC and PFL.

Yea you're probably right actually....

Netflix is claiming they'll commit to theater runs but I just don't believe it. This will be a typical corporate lie where you don't make any changes for a couple years, then implement your bullshyt in year 3. Three to four week theater runs or something. This year was a good example of why theaters are coming back so hard. Sinners had such an amazing run...I saw it like four or five times in theaters lol. Long run, lots of buzz, constant social media chatter, and then guess what? The minute it was announced to be hitting HBO Max it got another massive rush of buzz/going viral. It was a perfect rollout to streaming because it had built momentum. Imagine if it just got dumped on Netflix or Max after two weeks in theaters. Then the headlines would be about how the film wasn't on track to break even.

Same with One Battle After Another. Saw that multiple times and it kept building momentum in theaters. Kept rolling with the word of mouth, reviews etc. That shyt would have been buried on streaming. 3 hour film? Nah it would be dead. Instead the theater run made its streaming debut a big success because it spent months building anticipation.
Oh they're definitely lying. It's the same corporate lip service. Just like saying they won't jack up prices, eliminate jobs, or cut services after an acquisition then they typically do just that 12-18 months after it's approved...smh
