what about it was dumb? what he said was true. analytics is just some shyt cacs who couldn't play made up so they could have a seat at the table. at the end of the day analytics don't win you championships. having the best players do just like it always been. miami ain't win cause of analytics. they won because they had 3 of the best players in the game. san antonio ain't win cause of analytics. they won cause they had the most talent 1-12 in the league. and so forth.

when's the last time the A's or some moneyball squad won a world series? its teams that got the most talent than win the chip. analytics is just some shyt for white nerds who could never play ball and want affiliation with sports.
Replace A's with TB Rays since they're more analytics based (and who a lot of journalists who are big on analytics were holding up as one of the forward thinking organizations but yet no one calls out their lack of championship success) who've yes, increased their win share but haven't made it past the ALDS

I have no issues w/ the advanced metrics crew but it gets way too much of the credit in a sport like basketball and slowly working its way into being the only right stat(s) to look at in football

there were no middle of the road no talents in that team, breh.
stop being so self deprecating to the story of what the pistons were.
they were the most pedigreed team in the league.
that fit the most pedigreed template coach in the league like a glove.

I agree with Barkley here but Chuck threw out 0 relevant points and sounded like a crazy old man.:francis:

If you look at a player like JR Smith, analytics arent gonna show you that hes gonna go to the club til 6 in the morning on game day:yeshrug:

And they might have some algorithm for determining young players potential, but can they say they know if a player has the drive to become that player? How many next Michael Jordans were there that never happened? Analytics wouldnt have changed shyt there :yeshrug:

Theres a reason why they send scouts to watch players, and better scouts get better money. You cant truly determine a players worth only with box scores and microsoft excel. :yeshrug:

Can someone explain to me how analytics is actually aiding the rockets in their personnel decisions bc I don't see it.

They signed Lin to a huge contract. Let Lowry and dragic leave. Signed Josh Smith, one of the most inefficient players in the league. Harden and dwight are their franchise players, both who I don't believe are capable of getting them to the finals.

Don't know if people saw the Clippers and Rockets game last night but Mark Jackson pretty much summed up analytics perfectly

Said when he was the coach of the Warriors he had all the analytics people on his staff telling him he had to play some no name dude more because the dude had one of the highest plus minus on the team...

And Jackson was like "Of course he does he only ever plays with curry and thompson they are elite shooters every player on this team has their highest plus minus when they play with curry and thompson"...

i was hating morey too, before this year that is where all his findings of talent is really showing. the guy picked out jones and montasjonuas and kept them over the likes of marcus morris/pat patterson/thomas robinson/royce white(lel at that pick ever being made though). he's not perfect, but the guy has found great talent to surround his stars with.

at first i thought the rockets would be dead in the water when bosh denied them, parsons left, and they traded lin/asik without getting any quality players back, but yet they continue to thrive and compete(mostly on the brilliance of harden, which again was a totally coup by him).

they're no contender and they're certainly not perfect, but Morey has done a good job with his analytics and building a roster. i dont think you can base everything on analytics, and im sure morey doesn't, but you can't deny that he's done a good job of transitioning the rockets from a treadmill team to a pseudo-contender without EVER resorting to tanking. i find that shyt impressive since every other team these days is trying to tank to get good, while he stayed in the middle until he got good.

getting rid of dragic, especially for the cheap ass contract that the suns got him for, was a giant fukking mistake though.

So I don't understand this entire "He got Harden and he got Howard" argument...

First of all he didn't "get Harden"...OKC gave Harden away...it's not like he went to OKC and got them to give up a player they wanted...OKC put Harden out there to be traded and Morey gave them what they thought was the best deal...I don't see how this is some great accomplishment...This is just a GM offering up something for a player because he know's that player is available...this isn't say waht Kupchack did to get Gasol...now that was a GREAT MOVE...that was a "Hey Memphis give me your perrenail 18 and 9 all star big man and I will give you the rights to have his little brother who is currenlty so fat and out of shape he can't even run"...not that is a GREAT MOVE by a GM...

Then there is the Howard thing...which hasn't moved the needle for them at all...the year before they had Howard they made the playoffs and lost in the 1st round...the year they had Howard they made the playoffs and lost in the 1st round...so when we talk about real world results on the baksetball court Howard has not made this team any better at all...they were a team that lost in the 1st round before he got there...so far they are a team that loses in the 1st round now that he is there...

Like...this is what I don't get about all the pub for Morey...he is looked at as this great GM...but the rockets have been a team getting the exact same results out of whatever he does for 7 of the 8 years he has been there...no matter who he gets...no matter what trades he makes...no matter what new age thing he does with the roster...7 of the last 8 years the rockets either don't make the playoffs or go out in the 1st round...so how does that make this guy so smart...

I mean...Danny Ferry had the cavaliers in the playoffs every year...put a revolving door of players around lebron...then went to Atalanta and is doing the same thing...but somehow I never hear this dude name brought up...and at least he actually made it to the finals once...and he actually built a roster that finished with the best record in the league...twice...

But Morey seasons in the same way 7 out of 8 years and he is some boy wonder...made it to the second round one time...

Maybe Dwight and Harden are selling more tickets...getting houston more games on national tv...more commercials...and hey that is fine good job more money in somebodies pocket...but when it comes to real life results on the basketball court...no Morey hasn't really done anything with Houston...

Or are Rockets fans expectations so low that they are find with just making the playoffs and losing in the 1st round? They are find with having an MVP candidate taking them to one and done seasons?
