I'm taking my time with this joint. Spent extra time sharpening up my parries...I'm still inconsistent but a LOT better after taking the advice @hex mentioned of paying attention to the sound along with visuals. The funny thing is I found the first boss to be the easiest enemy to parry so far.

For the vets of the game, I have a question. How easy is it to miss content? Like, I've seen one boss that's way too OP for my team this early on and I also met the creature that's got no legs and keeps asking for light. I pressed past both because I didn't find an item to light the torch and I don't have the parrying skills for a boss with one-hit kills and enough health to take me 20 turns to body. But I don't want to miss going back to those plot points, so I'm scared to move too far ahead (right now, I saw a message about Maelle being to the North, so I'm about to travel there).

Also, are there secret/hidden areas to find? This game feels like it's designed to have some hidden stuff, but I've only found some items off to the sides in crates and boxes. It's so early that I'm not surprised, but I don't want to keep wandering areas if I'm just wasting time and making myself confused.
I wouldn't say its 'easy' to miss stuff. There's no maps or minimaps so people legit just get turned around and miss things they normally wouldn't.

People make a big deal about the missables because some of them are a big fukkin deal :skip: You're also very, very early on in the game too so nothing you're dealing with is that significant

If this game has a flaw it's overworld navigation. No waypoints other than main missions and you gotta hit different spots to test out if you're ready for them, but this is all late game content.

I wouldn't have minded a mission checklist like an open world RPG but that's a personal thing. There is something to diving in and exploring this game that hits right.

There's a gang of stuff you can miss and there's two dungeons in particular in Act 3 that offer a bunch of lore/character info but both are inexplicably optional.

I will say explore everything thoroughly. In the over world and in the "dungeon" areas.

Also go to camp often and talk to everyone as much as it will let you. Trust me.

Also be on the look out for lost Gestrals on the over world map.

Thanks for the advice guys, this sounds like I'll treat it like my first run through Black Myth Wukong. I got that on drop, and made my first run blind. So, I wound up exploring every nook and cranny of each map (happily bc of the gameplay being fire)...I still missed some stuff, but I found most of it, and I was kinda happy to rewind with a guide and grab everything I'd missed.
