So weird how people hold black artists to random standards no one else is held to. Jay Z is an artist first. He's still releasing music, still recording. Dr Dre hasn't been fully focused on music in years, hasn't released a proper album in years, and doesn't even write his own music.

Why would Hov pass on tens of millions of dollars from touring? No one asks the Rolling Stones why they're still touring. In fact, as of July 2017 the top ten tours by revenue that year were:

  • $151.5million – Guns N’ Roses
  • $118.1million – U2
  • $98.2million – Justin Bieber
  • $88million – Metallica
  • $68.2million – Depeche Mode
  • $60.5million – Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • $59million – Adele
  • $57.2million – Ed Sheeran
  • $54.5million – Eric Church
  • $52.7million – Bruno Mars
Half the list is made up of legacy acts. Half the list are dudes in their 50s and 60s, still touring. Bono has significantly more money than Hov or Beyonce and still tours. You'd never hear anyone say "Bono needs to stop touring and get his paper" or "why is Bono slaving for Ticket Master."
:francis:

Some people like their job. Some people like touring. There's nothing wrong with it.

You guys still don't get it, none of these artists you mentioned markets themselves as billionaire businessmen who doesn't have to make music. Bono and U2 have always been artists FIRST. Jay-Z's whole shtick was that he wasn't a rapper, he's a hustler who just so happens to rap and is this BOSS when in reality he's just an artist and a worker. He takes out large advances from Live Nation and has to get on the road every year to support his lifestyle.

He's not Robert F. Smith (a real black billionaire). He's just an artist and a worker and there's nothing wrong with that........but so many people get caught up in the lies. That's all Sc00n was trying to tell everyone. Believe half of what you see, none of what you hear.

I agree he is lying about his wealth and has ALWAYS sold an image that doesn't exist. But even if he was as rich as he claimed there would be nothing wrong with him touring. Bono is almost a billionaire and still tours lmao.

He doesn't need to tour. He does it because he gets paid to do what he likes. Like most artists at his level.

We can stop at the bolded.

That's all Sc00n was trying to say.

The rest of what you're saying in red in pure speculation unless you know him personally. Both of us don't.

Actually according to the breh who posted the live nation deal a few pages ago, he’s required to tour..

My speculation stemmed from some of the variables you mentioned.. who wants to do that when they’re not in their prime, have new borns at home, AND THEIR VOICE IS SHOT.

I would be @ home living off my investments and running the firm while I’m with my kids 24/7

Beyoncé is still arguably in her prime.. I can see why she’s still out here in her bag

There's powerful pocket watching at work here :mjlol:

But truthfully, how many artists are as well off as they say? Probably about 0.00001%. So, any adult who takes a rapper serious when they're flossing in their bars needs to understand that hip hop is an aspirational art made by people who generally come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

And the same applies here to Jay-Z. I mean, the numbers already came out with the Nets thing, so that's not news. Did he put extras on his ownership level? Yes, but he was still an owner. Even if he had a very, very, very small ownership stake.

And who didn't know he was more brand ambassador than owner? :russell:

They leveraged his celebrity in exchange for giving him a small morsel of the pie and an eternal front row pass....again, for more brand ambassadorship. At least he received more than just a one-time check and some photo ops.

And again with the Tidal deal, he may have put extras on it. But if he owns any of it, then he's an owner :yeshrug:

How many non-blacks are called "owners" of this or that when they have a bunch of partners who play the background? A lot :ld:

Peace

Because you love performing, have you seen these old ass rock bands rich as fukk near 100 years old still touring? Bob Dylan has been on tour for 25 years straight. Have you seen the thousands of karaoke places around the world?

Now add that you make millions for an hours or two, these people grossed 100 million bucks for like 19 shows. Now you can take that 100 million and buy more buildings, donate more to protestors, help more people in Africa, send more people to college and invest in more to make more. All made possible from doing what you love? How does that not make sense.

It's like asking why do billionaire CEOs go to work at 8 every morning and work 12 hour days? Cause they enjoy it, not cause they have to. Add to that they make more money. Warren Buffett lives like he makes 400k per year and work 12 hours a day in his average ass Nebraska office and he's worth what? 70- 80 billion?
People play music for free and enjoy it. Why the fukk wouldn't he keep doing it while getting paid.

Exactly, it's amazing people aren't understanding it.

Especially when it comes to a guy who recognized even in 1996 that he didn't want to be a rapper forever. Dude threatened to retire after his first 3 albums and retired after the Black Album. Jay-Z knows damn well he doesn't want to be on tour at his age. He wanted to be an executive while everyone else raps under him.........He's playing the cards he's been dealt and has a lifestyle to support.

Damn, a lot of things being dropped in this thread. Seems Jay may be two different people to a lot of folks.

Something else may be at play bro.. got me questioning the Kanye move to align with the right, as well...

I definitely already see your perspective. This man shouldn’t be touring for a variety of reasons..

Something is going on under the surface

who give a f_ck if he's a billionaire or not. Who thinks about another man's money this money this much to discuss it for an entire week. What is important is that he has generated "wealth" to pass alone to his children. That's all that matters. Being a pawn for liberals, white people, etc. Who cares. Even if it is true, most people who reach that level (unless inherited) has done some things to get that money that you will NEVER know about. Bottom line, this fool would trade places with him in a second.

Wait, wait, wait. Are nikkas really mad that a rapper might be embellishing in his raps? Coz don't get it twisted, the only time you ever heard Hov talk that billionaire shyt is on records.

Yall the same type of nikkas that prolly think Ross really know Noriega or that Jada and Styles really got them guns that the government got.

I think what's happening here is that nikkas are secretly afraid that Hov might not just be "rapper" bragging.

When was the last time someone pulled up on Axl Rose and asked him the difference between a 4.0 and a 4.6 though?? :ohhh:

Now that I think about it, Jay calls himself the Black Axl Rose for a reason. Axl probably would have given dude the same answer as Jay :ehh:

"beat it..." :russ:
