Deputy injured, man killed during early morning attempted burglary investigation

MAMOU, LA (WAFB) -
A 27-year-old man died and the deputy who shot him was injured after the two became involved in a struggle.

Louisiana State Police is investigating the case. The deputy involved is with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office.

According to LSP, the deputy responded to an attempted burglary call in the town of Mamou Thursday morning at roughly 4:10 a.m.

When the deputy got to the scene, he found Dejuan Guillory. The release did not say whether Guillory was suspected of committing the alleged attempted burglary.

"Once contact was made, an altercation between Guillory and the deputy occurred," states a press release. "During the altercation, Guillory was shot."

Guillory was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the struggle, the deputy was injured and was taken to a local hospital. Officials did not provide details regarding his injury.

The deputy, whose name was not provided, is reportedly in stable condition.

Later in the evening, investigators with LSP arrested Dequine E. Brown, 21, of Church Point in connection with the case. Officials say Brown was with Dejuan Guillory during the incident. She is charged with attempted first degree murder of a police officer and was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.

An Evangeline Parish Sheriff's deputy, Paul Lafleur, responded to a call about a possible burglary around 4:10 a.m. Thursday. Lafleur was alone and within his jurisdiction, the spokesman said.

He encountered Dejuan Guillory, 27, of Mamou, and Dequince Brown, 21, of Church Point, at 1652 Reeton School Road, just outside the city limits of Mamou, he said.

Lafleur got into an altercation of some sort during which he shot and killed Guillory.

Lafleur was injured, but not shot, according to the spokesman. He has been released from a hospital and is on paid administrative leave, which means he is not allowed to perform any duties for the sheriff's office.

Brown was booked at the Evangeline Parish Jail, but that facility does not house women, the spokesman said, so she was transferred to the Avoyelles Women's Correctional Center.

Brown was charged with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Bond had not been set as of 3 p.m. Friday, according to the Avoyelles Parish Jail booking division.

so the 21 y/o gets temp murder and no charges filed in regards to the deseased or the officer that actually offed breh

I live in St Landry Parish right along the Evangeline Parish Border ( where Mamou is) and the Local gossip going around is that their was never any robbery or anything and the cop was just hassling the guy for not having an ID at which point they got into some type of fight or altercation. After the fight the dude surrendered for arrest and then the deputy shot him after placing him on the ground in handcuffs. The girl then jumped on the officer back and he shot the guy a couple more times during the struggle which is probably why she's being charged
