Drake's first week sales are misleading (Prior Streams For Hotline Bling were counted)

Interesting thread.

But in the end, like @OnlyInCalifornia said, he's still going platinum.

I get the hate for the new sales measuring system and agree with ere'thing that ere'body else already said in here. It's dumb and all the most pertinent points against it have all been raised previously.

But as pertains to Drake specifically....despite what some don't wanna admit, the fact is that Drake is arguably the biggest rapper in the world at the moment and, more importantly, people don't CARE that he's an actor playing a rapper...

Hell, why should they? Be real, why should THIS be a hindrance to Drake's success if fraudulence wasn't a hindrance to the success of his contemporaries? So if the public don't care about rappers kissing other rappers in the mouth or rappers being C.O.'s while steadfastly denying it or rappers wearing skirts and makeup or rappers wearing Hooters shirts while brandishing nines and dancing like suggestive fakkits....why would they care about THIS beige nikka being a fraudulent writer? :heh: That's not logical, it doesn't follow.

So then it also doesn't follow....why would they care if he inflates his sales numbers? Ain't no integrity (or accountability TOWARDS having integrity) anymore, people "just want the music".

At the end of the day, NONE of these rappin/singin cats made themselves popular. :manny:

But yeah....1,500 streams equals an equivalent album sale now? Gee, arbitrary much? :mjlol:

i see what you're saying because 1 person will buy an album but no one on earth will stream a song 1500 times ever

but dont forget how cost effective to set up bots that constantly stream songs 24/7 without getting detected vs going out and buying albums.

If I wanted to I could spin up hundreds of aws virtual instances/machines for free and set up spotify bots on each machine to bump up streams counts. If my ip for the machine gets denied I'd just spin up new ones.

Drake is the biggest rap artist of this generation. Eminem was bigger than 50 and Nelly at the time they came out. Nelly was extremely popular but he didn't completely dominate the rap game with the amount of hits Drake has. If this was 2000, and Drake had the popularity he has now, he'd easily go diamond.

If Fifty had the same popularity he had back then these days mixed with Social Media he would have went 50X Diamond:wow:.

Yaw are just old. No one buys cds anymore except old people who are stuck in their ways. This new ruleset is a welcome change. In 10 years, every artist no matter how hot would go wood as far as cd sales. This is the new generation, get over it.
