Also crazy how much shyt social media/the internet killed. Sports writers/reporters, highlight shows, sports radio…ESPN ain’t putting effort into none of them
I remember when I wouldnt leave the house until I saw ESPN top 10 plays. Now highlights are up within 10 or so minutes of it happening. It's amazing how times have changed. Also crazy how much shyt social media/the internet killed. Sports writers/reporters, highlight shows, sports radio…ESPN ain’t putting effort into none of them

They're paying so much for the rights to these leagues that they can't afford to spend on anyone but the top talents like Stephen A Smith who will work himself like a dog.
Live events and special talent/personalities are the only things people are gonna tune in to live TV for in this day and age. It really doesnt pay to invest in anything else. The issue with ATH is that its not star driven and we can watch 1000 pods with people going back and forth over various topics. So it really has no place in 2025.I remember when I wouldnt leave the house until I saw ESPN top 10 plays. Now highlights are up within 10 or so minutes of it happening. It felt like once Stuart Scott died, that's when we started seeing this massive shift in sports commentary/journalism.Last of a bygone era for me. 07-17 espn and espn radio gave me some entertainment

This is definitely not the reason lol.ATH became expendable, because it’s the socially conscious, “woke” show featuring a diverse group of panelists. ESPN is leaning in on the “dude bro” Pat Mcafee and MAGA apologists like Stephen A personalities to appeal to that demographic now
pat isnt/wastnt a superstar. hes just an early adopter who hopped on early because he realized the power of podcasting and how it can replace network shows. This is definitely not the reason lol.
In the era of YouTube, where there are 100,000 sports debate shows out there, there’s really no room for shows like ATH. You need a superstar to carry it or maintain something like that, which is what Pat and SAS are.
