I disagree, it may not be transparent in terms of layoffs right now but companies are buying/installing more intelligent systems that do not require that many people to maintain. A lot of new facilities systems are built w/lots of intelligence that they can initiate simple workflows based on certain preset criterias.
AI is in its infancy just like the internet was some 25 years ago. When all we knew was AOL back then who woulda/coulda thought this is where we'd be in 2025. Where are they now: Landline (home phone service), Long distance telco providers? Taxi drivers? Toll collectors? Sending letters? Fax machines? CD/DVDs? Telephone booths? etc etc ... When was the last time a person from a "first world" economy traveled on vacation and even bothered w/the local taxi drivers? Everyone straight to Uber .. This wasnt available 15 years ago. How many people are not calling a handyman bec they can follow a youtube video?

AI is a baby right now, learning, in 15 - 20y, AI will be the equivalent of a college grad in terms of tech maturity. Keep sleepin'
I meant specific trades :ahh:

people with very little business acumen but who have i-demand skills will be able to go into business for themselves with AI holding their hands the entire way and managing finances, etc
Liberating if you have a skill set in high demand. Bad news for everyone else.

I’m an Air traffic controller and for a long time I always assumed we’re 50-70 years away from any sort of AI taking over

I’ve changed my stance. I think in 15-20 years both pilots and ATC are gonna have vastly different jobs and tasks

Maybe for awhile we’ll be essentially “monitors”, but that just means there will need to be less of us

If that can happen to a highly skilled technical job that involves the potential of hundreds/thousands of lives at a time… it can happen to any career.

I’m already under the assumption by the time I put my 20 years in, my career might not be around

The calculator didn’t take the job of math teachers so I doubt AI will truly replace true value in the workplace, if anything it will enhance/assist

ai = never
robots - not for 15-20 years at minimum

never :gucci:

they're putting large language models in robots and their intelligence is growing every few months. I would have guessed within 10 years for a bipedal robot to do some sort of trade but I think they'll develop smaller robots for specialized tasks before the jack of trades robots appears.
