Compared to Biggie and Pac in their Peak, Jay coming out indie in Ny of course it wasn't for specially not among 13 year old kids in Atlanta.

Neither was OB4CL, Iron man, Ridin Dirty, Liquid Swordz and on. Even albums like The Infamous were grinders, not as bad as RD but it wasn't instant super success. Illmatic did the same numbers as RD too, and if it wasn't for the Jews giving it 5 mics cats wouldn't try to act like it didn't flop.

People just love that Jay wasn't one of the biggest rappers (for the 12 first moths of his career).

How did it change the game?
What/who is/are a hiphop head?
It set a new standard in lyricism... u think rd wasnt influenced by it?

Hip hop heads are people like you and me and the majority of posters on this site that arent just casual listeners but look for new hip hop and discuss it regularly

lol no...this is fiction....cats fukked with jay when RD dropped....did it do outrageous numbers? no....but times were different and the numbers didnt determine if people fukked with you or not....

and people need to stop with the 'he only got 'hot' cause big and pac died'...yes, big and pac dying opened a void people wanted to fill, but people were fukking with his music before they passed....if people werent, someone else wouldve filled the void...
:mjlol: nobody knew who Jay was in 96 :yeshrug:resonable doubt was not an underground hit, it was an Album that nobody cared about. that doesn't mean it was bad, but there is no need to try and rewrite history :francis:

Ain't no...can i live, dead pres, brooklyns finest and can't knock the hustle all were played quite heavily over here. I think its unfair to say it wasn't making any sort of noise, but it definitely paled in comparison to cuban linx, ready to die n them. For what its worth I dont think its as good as those albums either, but its still quality.

Anyone know what kind of reviews it was getting at the time, source etc?

:heh: at quoting someone telling you that they and people that they knew fukked with the album when it first came out, just to tell them "nobody cared about the album". You haters are so miserable that you don't even care about logic.

Maybe it's semantics.

To me, Mecca and the Soul Brother was hot when it came out. Black on Both Sides was hot when it came out. Soul Food was hot when it came out. RD was on the level of those albums in terms of popularity.

But for others that's not considered hot.
Mecca had a very different reception amongst the core community. I see your point about the other two.

Yep believe it or not. Future knows what he's talking about. He's been a student of the game. Rico Wade instilled it in him
So is he speaking from his own experience as a 12 year old? Or is he repeating what others have told him?

this is true....people really acting like 'aint no' wasnt get push for the mainstream, while dead presidents/can i live wasnt getting push for the underground....i'm not saying RD was the best album that year, was instant classic, that jay was looked at as the best, etc., but he was far from irrelevant like cats in here trying to say.....i mean, he was relevant enough for nas to diss him on it was written....
Yep. To claim that he was irrelevant or say nobody knew about him is stupid.
