shyt don’t even matter at this point. It be funny cause they’ll know Pac though. You might as well say you don’t know Pac at this point too :yeshrug:
Pac became bigger than hip hop to be honest. People aren't referring to Digital Underground/2Pacalypsd Pac when they say they love Pac or grew up listening to him. Its moreso knowing the hits of each era then Death Row Pac then all of sudden he's their favorite rapper. They dont walk back hip hop from the inception and learn samples or what not. Its all homage given from a personal perspective due to their upbringing, not just what he did for hip hop.

I love Dilla and Madlib. But why am I to assume somebody else should know who they are? He was a baby/young kid when Dilla was active AND I don't think he is into that subgenre of rap/hip hop overall. This is nothing to have outrage over. If anything its a teachable moment for him if he is interested. Put him on to their greatness.
This is a weird question.

Anyone who follows Hip-hop a little bit heard of that name (Dilla)

So a rapper SHOULD be expected to know who Dilla is

This level of low expectation explain why rap is bound to die

An artform has some names you should know if you take part in it

But it seems that rap is an exception where ignorance and stupidity are rewarded

Here’s a few

The masses have no clue who produced these songs, and most 30 and under people might not even know these by name

At best these are some radio songs they heard in passing when they were kids and forgot about

If you’re not an underground fan, or a nerdy hip-hop head, you don’t know who Madlib and Dilla are in 2025

And I say this as someone who knows everything they ever made

They’re niche, unsung heroes that never received mainstream recognition despite working with a few mainstream artists

They weren’t 2000s street producers (Heatmakerz, Alchemist) and they’re not mainstream (Kanye, Pharrell, Timbaland, etc)

They occupy a really narrow lane of underground rap that very few people are tapped into

Why would G Herbo know who they are?
