I agree.
But I also think it's something the fans have been asking for, and they want to do it for them, but also have a million other things going on too. People been asking for a Nas and AZ album for 30 years. And AZ said he's talked about it with Nas, but knows Nas is busy and has other things going on and he does too. So it's not that easy for them to lock in sometimes, drop everything and commit to a whole album while balancing all the other sh*t.
I think when it comes to music, especially artists that are high-caliber and tend to overthink things, it has to just come naturally. You make a couple songs, then you just can't stop and before you know it, you have a whole project. Gang Starr was like that because their albums usually took a few weeks, at the most a few months. I know you weren't a fan of the Hit-Boy albums, but I could tell Nas was in a creative zone that he hadn't been in for years, and working with Hit-Boy helped him not to linger on things or second-guess himself. I'll always remember the Breakfast Club interview where Nas said that working with Hit-Boy taught him not to spend so much time on the lyrics. They could just be having a random conversation and Hit-Boy will say "That sounds like a bar, say that." And every album sounded different sonically, which gave them their own unique identities.
It's not even a Nas thing, but artists in general have to deal with it. J. Cole said that's why a joint album with Kendrick never happened because they're both too busy with their careers and families. The only time it could have worked was when they were both young and establishing themselves, around 2011/2012. And I would still love to see it happen one day because they're both as good as they're ever going to get, but even without the beef/apology, they have to set aside time for a couple weeks to make it and I don't see either of them doing that.
