Samples probably too expensive to clear for the return they’d get. I remember Ghost himself being upset at the first week sales for Big Doe Rehab and mostly he was complaining about how much the samples cost.

Not being able to Clear samples have literally altered the course of some rappers careers, see Big Krit
But why are dudes like alc getting it in on every release and winning grammys.

The lack of samples is unbearable, this entire album is just drum beats

Problem is it's not an album.

Albums are a focused body of work. This is a bunch of songs recorded over the course of multiple years thrown together. If this was a mixtape or a lost tapes I could let some things slide. You want to name this after a classic then that's the standard I'm going to hold it to. Nothing on this matches up to the songs on SC.

The Rae album was (presumably) all new material but had the same feeling. Bunch of songs thrown together, about the only connecting tissue is meh mixing. At some point there's a mixtape/radio DJ theme.

This is much better than the Rae album and there are some real standouts. I have no idea why it's named SC2 besides marketing though. It's just a collection of tracks, some dope some meh. Production varies but largely feels like a bunch of mid 00s type stuff.

Starting to sense a pattern of these releases having no real direction.

Rae's album was better but even it's not amazing to me. At this point with Mobb and Nas being the only ones left it's up to Alchemist, Hav and Preem to save the legend has it series.

I have not heard one album from Slick Rick to this that's a banger.

Yeah, this whole series on Mass Appeal has basically been all hype, so far.

None of these albums are dope.

New Ghostface album is solid, like 3.5 out of 5, but it isn't worthy of the title "Supreme Clientele 2." But if he had titled it something else, folks probably wouldn't have checked it out. I've only heard it once, but I don't think I like it as much as "Fishscale", "Apollo Kids", "12 Reasons to Die" or "36 Seasons." (I'm not even bothering to compare it to classic Wu stuff).
