Has Ye kept Jigga's career alive or the other way around ?

Anyone denying that Kanye kept Jay-Z culturally relevant is lying to themselves. Jay wants to be Kanye so damn bad its disgusting. He has bitten him every step of the way. Stop hiding behind album sales. MCHG sold a lot of records (although it had the Galaxy gimmick behind that) but it made no dent in music whatsoever. No dent in the culture. It disappeared as quickly as it was released. Yeezus only sold $600k but is there one person on the planet who hasn't listened to that album? Everyone has heard it, probably multiple times. Still has people arguing about it to this day.

Jay's relevance was on the ropes before Ye hooked him up on Swagga Like Us/Run This Town and laced him with those beats on BP3, then WTT was the icing on the cake.

Another jaded post.

You think there are a sizable amount of people that heard Yeezus and not MCHG.

Also, what dent in the culture did Yeezus make.

Holy Grail, FWM, ON the Run, and Tom Ford were played more than any Yeezus song and made way more noise.

Yet he always manages to sell more than all of them.

Nobody with your type of opinion can ever explain that one for some reason.

Cats like The Game and Busta work with more artists, but can't sell shyt :patrice:
Ill explain it

Because he used them is why he sold more

They don't be on that using shyt like him

Oh, so when he collabs with others, he is using them, while every other rapper collabs with others for the hell of it?

Nevermind the fact that he is always the bigger artist than those he collabs with (minus Eminem). They definitely have nothing to gain from being on a track with him.

Gotcha :comeon:

Jay been biting biggie among other rappers to bring up his fame

He even married beyonce to stay relevant

Let's not pretend like he didn't make moves to stay afloat

anyone who was in college around the time Watch The Throne came out knows that doing that album with Ye singlehandedly made a whole younger generation of rap fans look at Jay like :ehh:

I've met too many people to count who ended up liking WTT, then asked me for recommendations on other Jay-Z albums to listen to, and went from there to being Jay fans

If that's all it took to stay relevant, Soulja Boy would still be a platinum artist.

As for marrying Beyonce, dude was a platinum artist before and after the marriage. I would really love to hear about this this time when his career was supposedly in jeapoardy.

Souljah boy didn't make as close to as much moves as Jay did lol

He didn't have to be in jeopardy to make a move to stay relevant

When has Jay's career been in jeopardy? When has he even been close to flopping or being irrelevant? Kanye may be helping Jay stretch his career with Watch The Throne, but Kanye didn't keep Jay relevant. If it wasn't Watch The Throne, it would've been another solo album.

They've both helped each other though. Jay Z keeps Kanye grounded and in the Hip Hop world. Kanye helps Jay Z take more creative risks and keeps him away from doing an album full of Ghetto Techno and Off That.

Kanye co-executive produced the album that "Off That" appears on. Unfortunately, that song isn't the only atrocity on that same album.

Come on man. You know Yeezus was much more relevant than MCHG. The Bound 2 video alone had more buzz than that entire album.. Couple that with the controversy/discussion that New Slaves and Black Skinhead caused and it's not even a discussion.

Bound2 had buzz because Kim was It.

There was no controversy over those songs

Both of those songs are Timbaland's doing and fortunately one of them was removed. But if Kanye hadn't produced a bulk of the album, imagine how many lazy Timbo tracks would've made the cut.

Kanye as the co-executive producer had a hand in approving those Timbo cuts. "Ghetto Techno" wasn't even intended for BP3. It was for Timbaland's own Shock Value 2. According to Tim's own DJ, Jay and Timbaland did five songs during that time. The other two leaked and were intended for other projects. Kanye is still at least 1/2 accountable for the "lazy" Timbo tracks that did make the cut.
