High blood pressure runs in my family

I’m usually around 123/74 all the time

Water, water, eliminate a lot of salt and exercise and cut out stress and anxiety

A lot of the tips are difficult for ppl who aren't used to exercising, can't excise constant or do not have easy access to a variety of foods/vitamins. My tips are easy enough to follow for the brokest of boys:

- Avoid drinking sugar. Juice, sweet tea/coffee, soda, etc. Sugary drinks are nothing but empty calories that account for the bulk of America's heart daily caloric intake and are the source of our health probelms. Drink water or unsweetened tea.

- Count your calories. As a said before, sugary drinks are a calorie trap and its easy to see when you actually start to keep track. You don't actually need a scale or anything though. Read the boxes. Stay away from food with high fat ratios. Stay way from high sodium/sugar content, both will make you hungrier and thristier. Try not to exceed more than 30 grams of sugar a day. Its extremely easy to break this rule if you have the average American diet. That's like a small can of coke.

- Make to time walk when you can. Ppl don't realize it but walking is an aerobic exercise...meaning it will strengthen your cardiovascular system in the long run. Ideally you'll want 10k steps a day (if you don't plan on exercising at all) but 6k should be the minimum. That's practically 15- 20 mins walking laps around a 2-3 block. And that's if your trying to meet your steps. You'll probably hit it while doing normal shyt. Everyone has a phone, get a step counter.

- Body exercises. You don't need a gym or weights to exercise or build muscle. Burpees and/ pushups are literally all you need. It doesn't matter what your level of fitness is.

You can run a circuit like this military cac by doing the shyt below. Stuff like this can be done in small ass prison cells, there's literally zero excuses not to exercise.

That’s not HBP. Why are cats on in here talking about normal blood pressure? :dahell:
Really not normal, my last BP reading was 104/59, at 123 you need to get to work. I hate "normal" standards in America because at that value you are only a few bad decisions from from hypertension. 120-129 is "elevated" per AHA standards, and you always want a Diastolic far below 80, 80 isn't ideal at all.

Normal

Blood pressure numbers of less than 120/80 mm Hg are considered within the normal range. If your results fall into this category, stick with heart-healthy habits like following a balanced diet and getting regular exercise.

Elevated

Elevated blood pressure is when readings consistently range from 120-129 systolic and less than 80 mm Hg diastolic. People with elevated blood pressure are likely to develop high blood pressure unless steps are taken to control the condition.

Hypertension Stage 1

Hypertension Stage 1 is when blood pressure consistently ranges from 130-139 systolic or 80-89 mm Hg diastolic. At this stage of high blood pressure, doctors are likely to prescribe lifestyle changes and may consider adding blood pressure medication based on your risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), such as heart attack or stroke.

You see, they even say that 120+ is elevated and you are at risk for high blood pressure and need to take steps towards corrective action. That's why I hate when people report "normal" at 120, you aren't normal, you are elevated and probably a year away from hypertension.

And on the numbers mattering:

Which number is more important?

Typically, more attention is given to systolic blood pressure (the first number) as a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease for people over 50. In most people, systolic blood pressure rises steadily with age due to the increasing stiffness of large arteries, long-term buildup of plaque and an increased incidence of cardiac and vascular disease.

However, either an elevated systolic or an elevated diastolic blood pressure reading may be used to make a diagnosis of high blood pressure. According to recent studies, the risk of death from ischemic heart disease and stroke doubles with every 20 mm Hg systolic or 10 mm Hg diastolic increase among people from age 40 to 89.

The suggestions here are great, but the simple truth is that hypertension is extremely common among black people, and you may have it regardless of your weight, habits, or lifestyle.

Try to lower it naturally, but don't play with this shyt. Get on the medication if you're not seeing results in a timely manner.

You don't want to be sitting around with untreated HBP. I'm speaking from experience.

Get outta here with that shyt. You’re like 4 points above normal and acting like you have HBP. :mjlol: :scust:

I wish i could remain at your level. Get at me when you’re actually taking pills for this shyt. Until then… :camby:

Bro the AHA say's 120 and above is elevated and at risk for hypertension. I'm literally quoting directly from the AHA, the people you get the "normal" value from, you are going off of outdated information, they changed that likely because people were going around saying 120+ is normal, it's not. I aiming for <100, tbh, and it should be the aim of most, because with that, you are drastically removing yourself from the probability of hypertension.

What you are overlooking, is that you don't want to be points away from hypertension, that's just a few bad decisions, the AHA notes that, it's your lifestyle that got you to 120 and as the AHA notes, the older you get, the base rises, so that person at 123 can easily expect to hit 130+ in the following years.

edit: I'm only trying to say that the 120 person will soon be in the shoes of someone that needs medication for it, they should avoid 120, the AHA says the same thing.
