idk what ur talking about. If his music was any deeper it would drown itself. Way more authentic than fake deep Wale or any trap artist you can name. Except Lil Durk or some shyt
Not really man.
His point of view consists of "America is racist and very fukked up" and that's the extent of it. Throw some easy listening lounge beats over that, and you've got half of his latest album. Not kidding either, 6 tracks out of 12 might as well be the same song. It's very pedestrian, but as I said before, it'll get a pass because it has a "message" despite that message being something any cognitive minority can pick up just from walking outside of their front door.
This is why I tend to appreciate rappers like Lupe Fiasco.
He could've taken the easy way out and made a 3-4 minute song about how "the prison is fukked up ya'll," but instead, not only does he weave in the corruption and racial profiling of the penal system across the country while simultaneously telling a story of a prisoner's incarceration and subsequent escape, he uses the second part of this song to expand on the parallels of both guard and criminal with how they're confined to the same cells during a correctional officer's shift while tensions between both parties rise.
There's so much more to be explored, that's why I'm not easily swayed by plain efforts. I don'tdoubt he'll eventually get better at his craft, but right now....it's just aiight.
