Music choice is not correlated to intelligence.

White people made the same arguments about the blues, jazz, rock, rap, techno/house at one point. Sad to see Black people parrot it.

He just was on Hot 97 name dropping the new NY talent like they shouldn't be getting more radio play and support over him. He always propping his stuff up and belittling the quality of other artists in the process.

This is kind of the problem I have with his latest album.

He has some basic social commentary and acts like its something profound....but scratching the surface at best.

He'll get cosigned because there's a "message" but it's neither profound nor deep. Like, you don't have to listen to his album or watch this interview to figure this out
idk what ur talking about. If his music was any deeper it would drown itself. Way more authentic than fake deep Wale or any trap artist you can name. Except Lil Durk or some shyt

Not really man.

His point of view consists of "America is racist and very fukked up" and that's the extent of it. Throw some easy listening lounge beats over that, and you've got half of his latest album. Not kidding either, 6 tracks out of 12 might as well be the same song. It's very pedestrian, but as I said before, it'll get a pass because it has a "message" despite that message being something any cognitive minority can pick up just from walking outside of their front door.

This is why I tend to appreciate rappers like Lupe Fiasco.

He could've taken the easy way out and made a 3-4 minute song about how "the prison is fukked up ya'll," but instead, not only does he weave in the corruption and racial profiling of the penal system across the country while simultaneously telling a story of a prisoner's incarceration and subsequent escape, he uses the second part of this song to expand on the parallels of both guard and criminal with how they're confined to the same cells during a correctional officer's shift while tensions between both parties rise.

There's so much more to be explored, that's why I'm not easily swayed by plain efforts. I don'tdoubt he'll eventually get better at his craft, but right now....it's just aiight.

why is it every time rap is the subject of its impact on the human psyche, there's always nikkas finna treat rap music like it's immune to the research conclusions and mental treatment that is based on repetition and symbolism, being used to condition the human mind, that is used by PR firms, advertisement agencies, health and fitness professionals?

The same idiots will say Jay-Z had everybody screaming "Holla", made nikkas stop rocking Jerseys. 50 Cent was responsible for crushing Ja Rule. etc. If rappers can influence that, they can infleuence anything including negativity, but these dunces don't want to hear it. It's all about white supremacy

I am fascinated by how so many of our people will acknowledge that mainstream media has played a major part in our social conditioning but perceive rap as an exception. It makes no sense. Listening to ANYTHING reptitively will have an effect on your sub conscious and trap rap is no exception. Its unfortunatr that this music has extremely self destructive messages.
Countering the effect this music (which is social conditioning whether you acknowledge it or not) has on the minds of our children will be one of our peoples greatest challenges.

Very very true

Music choice is not correlated to intelligence.

Correct me if I'm wrong cause I know you know your music, but I'm under the impression that those genres of music (especially rock, rap) were attacked because the establishment feared it for the subsersive potential it had, and given voice to the youth. On the other hand trap music is accepted/pushed by the mainstream precisely because they know those who listen to it aren't subsersive at all, and represent no threath whatsoever to the establishment.
