Is it better to groom your kids to be entrepreneurs or go to college, choose a career and grind it out in the workforce.

Groom them to be decent people with a good head on their shoulders. When the time comes they'll do great in whichever avenue they choose to travel on. 🤗❤

Dumb thread.

Everything whether it's businesses or careers/Jobs are CAPPED :mjlol:

Everyone can be an entrepreneur but not everyone will be a successful/profitable entrepreneur.

The same way if everyone did the same majors that had the best job prospects, the wage/prospects in that field would either stagnate or drop as it's now oversaturated. This also means LESS jobs in that field.

There needs to be diversification.

Y'all NEVER talk about this :mjlol:

Going to College exposes you to a variety of races and nationalities and various divergent points of view. In other words it usually shapes you into someone who can tolerate almost anyone from any culture. It makes you generally and usually a more reasonable and thoughtful person when dealing with other people because of all of the different types of personalities from all over that are there. It trains you to think critically in an academic and professional context. It exposes you to a wider variety of ideas than high school and it teaches you to read and write at an even higher level than high school. It also usually starts you off with more money in a job. Plus you get to fukk all sorts of hoes from all over. I joined a frat … I have black brothers all over the world now. That also allowed me personally be more aware of serving others and reaching out to others. It’s a buffet for #handsomegang and #inshapegang. The only downside is the cost … but if you paid attention in high school there are all kinds of scholarships available if you can’t afford to pay.

Ppl really need to realize that every human is not cut out for entrepreneurship. Taking a good clear look at each child's strengths and going from there is your best bet. A kid who is interested in how machines work can be anything from a mechanic to a mechanical engineer. Maybe that will manifest into entrepreneurship but don't force that on anyone.

Give your children the resources and the support to find their path as opposed to trying to make one for them. It never works.

College.

If they want to be entrepreneurs, I'd tell them to major in finance, accounting etc.

A lot of business people are good with the ideas but understanding the language of business is just as important. Can't be running a company if you don't know the difference between a cash flow statement and a balance sheet.

Once a person has the funding, they can create a business anytime...might even be a business where they use their degree.

It is better to support your children. You groom your child into doing what you think is best, you run the risk of pushing them down a path where they cannot realise their full potential.

Also, college isn't a waste of time. Major aside, there is a level of research, analysis, evaluation and discipline required to succeed.
The discipline that it takes to finish college is always going to be impressive for potential employers. All stats point to having degrees improving your earning potential, even for those with the “wasted” degrees, when compared to those without degrees at all.

The isshe is going into debt to do it. If someone else is paying for via family or scholarship, you’d be better off just doing that. Unless the kid really had a passion for some entrepreneurial endeavor. But it shouldn’t be pushed upon them by the parents.

I’m raising my daughters to be professionals. Period. Medical, Law, Finance, Engineering… They can take their pick of whatever they prefer or have a passion for.
:yeshrug:

Most people fail at entrepreneurship or they’re barely scraping by after being stressed the fukk out. Proudly screaming “I work for myself!”, yet are miserable and borderline broke after working 24/7.

“Everyone wants to be a business owner until it’s time to handle business.” - Me

I respect it though. There’s plenty of successful business owners. I know a few tradesmen that own their own businesses, and they make bank. I know a few that own restaurant chains too. BUT that is not the norm.

Listen man

I aint got no kids yet, but from my own upbringing education is key not only for achieving professional success but also personal one

Life was never easy for me and thank God and my family for pushing me to go to college and later on getting an MBA

Life is not set in stone for anyone, shyt could change at any time for the better or the worse

And in my own humble opinion, a formal education can help you in making the right the decision at the right time

Get it how you live tho, we just human n we'll only want whats the best, according to ourselves, for our kids

They should know how the economy works before they’re in high school.

:dahell:

You gonna teach economics to some 6th graders?

This argument has been made millions of times.
"We should be teaching kids about finances and the economy etc.."

Why do we automatically assume kids give a fukk about learning that? Most kids would just blow those off like they do math, science, and literally everything else.

Stop trying to groom your kids and just teach them how to be a decent person. How you gonna groom an entrepreneur when you probably have a job you've been working for 30 years anyway?

This mentality is why so many young adults fail. This is why kids graduate high school with zero awareness of how the world works.

You’ve been conditioned to push age old narratives. This isn’t the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s.

A parent should equip their children with a way to survive. Can't depend on the school system to teach them that. That's what successful families do. Broken families depend on the outside world to help their children through life. We can talk about some comparisons today, but this board can't handle the truth.

A lot of people that graduated from college are still slaves to the system and don't even know or want to know it. They've been indoctrinated.
