Is it still "cool" to be black and be a Wu-tang fan?

The last Wu album was horrendous.
:camby:
The last time I remember nikkas around my way really fukking with Ghostface was when "Run" came out.
What was the last song that sounded like Run that got burn around your way?
@DANJ! is right. The sound moved on...live instrumentation is a whole lot closer to what Wu was doing than rhyming over trap beats with wack simplistic Coco chants.

It's not about content. It's about sound.

Do you really think the average inner-city Black person is checking for Bad Bad Not Good?! Even the whole 8 diagrams fiasco with RZA wanting to add guitars and indie-rock his crew. Why do you think Rae was complaining all the time? The last Wu album was horrendous.

The last time I remember nikkas around my way really fukking with Ghostface was when "Run" came out. In fact, I know an OG (Black) who's been into hip hop since the 70s. I think he even has a Cuban Linx tattoo. He lost his mind when Run came out. That's that grimy party shyt. And I haven't seen him post a Ghostface track since.

None of this live band shyt is grimy.

Last Wu album was good. People are sheep and dumped criticism on it because of some early bad reviews. We even had several posters in that official thread that admitted that they didn't even listen to the album, but sh!tted on it because they felt like that's whats supposed to be done for that album. Not an awesome album but was good. And that whole average city kid sh!t is bullsh!t. Dudes ain't gonna be checking for Wu albums in 2015 regardless of who produced the sh!t. If you like the new sh!t, cool...if not, cool too. And you say "grimey" but name the dudes that's popular in the hood right now. Who's "grimey"? Drake? J.Cole? Kendrick? Average kids in the hood nowadays don't give a fvck about that grimey sh!t. The sound moved on, Wu is grown men in their mid 40's, deal with it. Rae can complain all he wants but as I've pointed out in the past, the ONLY time Rae ever has universally critically projects is with RZA's involvement.

Bottom line is this: Wu are legendary and it's never been corny to be a fan of their music, regardless of who's going to their shows and supporting them.

Bruh, I listened to that bullshyt album. What was it called again? Tomorrow never dies or something? That's how much I washed it out of my mind. There was that one track that sounded like Disney Frozen shyt. The fukk?!

My dude, I fukk with the Wu so heavy. I still listen to Supreme Clientele ALL THE TIME. Cuban Linx, Liquid Swords and Supreme Clientele are some of the best music I've ever heard in my life. Top 10 albums for me easy. I'll never let go from those albums. They're a part of my personality.

I agree that the sound has changed (for the worse imo). Grimy is not hot right now (Although ASAP Rocky is bringing it back slowly and that's a major reason why I fukk with Rocky - he's released the hardest rap music in a decade).

A huge part of Wu's appeal was their sound. And that sound comes from a very aggressive, street place. RZA remains as one of hip hop's best producers of all time. They took 'grimy' in hip hop to a whole other level. So if they're 40, and still rhyming about crack spots, but over non-grimy beats, don't you find that weird?

It's like they're confused.

Why do nikkas always assume that if I'm shytting on some legend's sound, that I want them to go the "Coco" route? NO.

You know what's actually closer to the Wu sound but is still unique and keeping with the times? Clams Casino.

RZA could easily have said, "Yo that kid Clams Casino... let's work with him and make some hot shyt." But RZA's not into hip hop like that. Dude fell off. HARD. He's in Hollywood and not really paying attention.

I'm not crazy about ASAP Rocky's production at all...that isn't as grimy to me as live instrumentation :yeshrug:
With the exception of whoever did Trillmatic - that shyt was :wow:
Just looked it up - it was ASAP Ty Beats (or something like that).

Breh, stop with the melodramatic extra sh!t. You know the name of the last album. It was a good album, if you don't like it whatever.

Bottom line is that the Wu sound evolved since the first album and has every album since. If you like the music, cool. If you don't, cool. Ain't like if they were still making underground grimey sh!t like 36 Chambers you would be buying the albums and buying concert tickets anyway. My point is that it's never been corny to be a Wu fan. I don't see your point. You agree with what the OP is saying or not? All the other sh!t is irrelevant to the thread.

are you serious?!

^That has to be one of the hardest rap beats in YEARS.

Live.Love.ASAP goes hard. These joints are the hardest rap joints I've heard in many years.

You're welcome to disagree with me. What live instrumentation to you goes harder than those tracks? I'm honestly curious.

Chill. I came into this thread with a response to your claim that "Wu's music has always been uncompromising and street". which I disagree with. Big time.

I'm always going to be a Wu fan. Their new shyt is corny as fukk to me but that's life.

I'm at work right now so I can't listen to these tracks. I had the mixtape and album with the similar names. Neither grabbed me at all production wise - not saying its wack - but not my thing.
I prefer the live instrumentation on the last two Ghost albums - especially 36 seasons. That's harder to me.

I've always wondered if white Wu-Tang fans actually understand any of the 5% lingo the Wu raps about or simply don't care

Check them out when you get home. I'm not saying you have to like Rocky's production. What am I saying is that his production is rawer and grimy than anything Ghost has rhymed on in many years. That's what I'm arguing.

Brand New Guy goes harder than any rap record of the last x years. Put that beat on loud and put on the "Here I Go Again" beat and compare the results.

I prefer the live instrumentation on the last two Ghost albums - especially 36 seasons. That's harder to me.

Of the 3 live albums Ghost released, I prefer 36 seasons.

So? It's been pointed out SEVERAL times in here that most legendary black street acts are being supported predominantly by white folks. Do you agree with being a Wu fan is corny or not?
