You should look into IT contractors in the area. But, if you dont like self studying, computers or tech its gonna be hard to like the field. The field has alot of lowballing salary wise too, but depending on the recruiter, they’ll tell their clients you want higher pay. Helpdesk has different levels. Most ppl new to IT start there and venture off to a specific field after a few years. You dont wanna just work in help deak for years n years. You gotta move up to higher positions and thats where certs and exp come into play.Like me, Im getting into information security, so im taking my sec+, cysa+ and possibly pentest+ and learning python soon.
What cert did u start with

I have none as of now :russ:. I just have had jobs where Im dealing with tech so i got exp wit computers. I have a marketing degree and my first job was a marketing admin at a mobile phone franchise Hq, where I was doing shyt in photoshop. Worked at a phone company slanging phones after that. Then, worked for a computer manufacter as a trainer. Now, im working for the govt. as an application support person. But im dipping since I got the help desk offer :yeshrug:.

My resume is embellished tho a little. Tbh, if you show you have drive and willing to learn you should land an entry leve helpdesk/tech support position esp in the dmv area

Certs dont mean shyt if you have no exp. but with cybersecurity you dont just get into the field. Gotta progress into it with a combo

Brehs , I got 3 years of HelpDesk and 2 years and counting as System Admin for a small family owned company of maybe 40 network devices..

I also have no certs or no degree. I will have my A+ and CCENT by March and I will be enrolled in a Bachelor's of IT program by that time too..

I hop on indeed and see Network Admin/System Admin/HelpDesk/NOC jobs and they make at LEAST 20 an hour...

What are some things I can learn to get me to that good money?! Ive just started working on Powershell. Anything else???

Marketing. nikka I been outta college since 2014. My degree dont matter for shyt for any of my jobs :hubie: Employers not giving fukk bout my major they just wanna see a degree. Thats where computer exp comes into play.

You need to hit up IT contractors like NTT Data, AECOM, GDIT, telsystems.

It depends on your resume too cuz they not hiring nikkas wit 0 computer exp. if you dont have the exp just lie on your resume. Look up help desk resumes and copy n paste. Just dont be a nikka saying he understands shyt he doesnt.

Honestly unless you ain't paying out of pocket, I would save the money and skip the A+ now since you have over 5 years of experience. Learning languages like Python is another thing to look at. Learning Linux will also help, if you haven't done so already. Cloud computing is big right now also, so getting familiar with AWS or Azure won't hurt.

I hate these type of questions because the truth is there are many roads you can take in IT to make money. Research some of the different roles and find out which ones you would like to do. Then we could provide you a better answer. Its better to make money doing something you enjoy than to make money but always wanting to jump off a building cause you hate your job.

If I created websites for classmates back in college for around a year. Can I spin this on my resume and say I was a free lance web developer?
