It seems this is something that needs to be stressed all the time, because mfers don't wanna listen:
The fact that Steph's playoff box score numbers are among the 'best of the best' is a testament to how great he is, because they really understate his game. The fact he receives greater defensive pressure and attention than anyone to ever play the game, makes his points per game and efficiency that more impressive. Just imagine if he was defended 1v1 all the time, and teams weren't throwing multiple defenders at him, on and off the ball. Imagine if he was defended just like your regular star. Imagine what his numbers would look like.
Imagine if he didn't sacrifice his assists because him initiating the possession in order to move the ball for an open shot [hockey assist] actually leads to a greater shot opportunity, and actually leads to a greater offense, as a whole.
Steph sacrifices his numbers in order for the team to be better.
This is why if you're judging him by the surface numbers, you're doing a disservice to his game and impact.
