It's 15 billion dollars in subsidies... Every year. So there's been trillions in subsidies paid.
Reparations isn't going to be paid every year.
Fortune 500 companies hide over 2 trillion in taxes every year. Every. Year. If the government actually held corporations accountable as "people" like Citizen United said they are, then those companies would be paying those taxes, or would be in prison for tax evasion like Al Capone. Reparations could be paid out of that.

A better analogy would be the difference between giving someone a dollar and giving them a 1000 when you only have a couple grand to your self. Since the total GDP of the US is in the low trillions this is way more relatable, but his point still stands.

Reparations IS different because the cost of the reparations we are owed is MASSIVE and UNPRECENDENTED. We are owed literally 10-20 trillion dollars. That is the amount that it will take to actually improve things for black people collectively. Outside of defense, what is something we spend a comparable amount on? Also you must keep in mind our total GDP for a year is only 19 TRILLION.You can't compare what private companies make and hide to what the government is prepared to spend on non defense related things. It is absolutely laughable to compare reparations with anything else, especially things that cost a couple of billion at most.

No it's not simple-minded.

Everybody else is at a positive. We are at a negative. Those things will just put people further ahead of us, just like what affirmative action and the Civil Rights Acts did. We don't need UNIVERSAL policies, we need specific policies. This is the problem with leftism in this country.
