don't you all remember Key Arena being a mausoleum during the Ray Allen years/Durant's rookie season?

or none of the local billionaires stepping up and buying the franchise?

it's fukked up what happened to the Sonics but it wasn't unavoidable or the biggest tragedy in sports history :yeshrug:

Well when does it hit the point that fans deserve to lose their team? Somebody gotta lose, those milwaukee fans will seamlessly evolve to bulls fans

The way Seattle lost their team sucked, but it doesn't solve anything by taking another fanbase's team. It just makes one fanbase happy and another one distraught.

And it's not like Seattle was some ultimate loyal fanbase

2007-08: 28th in attendance (Durant on the roster)
2006-07: 25th in attendance (Ray Allen & Rashard Lewis on the roster)
2005-06: 23rd in attendance (See above)
2004-05: 21st in attendance (Mind you they were a playoff team this year)
2003-04: 23rd in attendance
2002-03: 20th in attendance
2001-02: 21st in attendance

Like I said, it sucked the way they lost their team, but they aren't entitled to take any other city's team from them

a lot of that was a function of the size of key arena, not the attendence. 17k vs. 24k for the palace of auburn hills, 20k for quicken loans arena, etc.

in addition, look at seattle population growth from 2001 to 2015:

Key arena is is right between what they label as 'uptown' and south lake union.

and thats just seattle proper. Seattle aren't the GOAT fans like they think they are...they're incredibly fairweather [you should've seen seahawk apathy when i moved here in 09], but they are more than worthy of a basketball team.

I'm not saying they aren't worthy of a basketball team, but I don't see what made their fanbase so great to where some people are trying to come up with scenarios to move practically any team that gets a new owner or is trying to get a new arena deal there.

Taking other fanbases's team from there doesn't fix anything. It'll make Seattle fans happy but at the expense of another fanbase. And it's the same thing over again.

well those teams voted to move the sonics to oklahoma city, so i'm sure seattle and its fans do not give a fukk about that fanbase :manny:

from living here, few cities love "basketball" as much as seattle that I've seen nationwide. Their affinity for the sonics can be gauged in many ways but breh, basketball is the most played sport here easily and is the king sport here for the youth. its a basketball town

They'res not many cities you can say that about.. which is why it's kinda sad they don't have their team

You have cities like New Orleans that literally don't care about basketball but have a team..though that team only exists because of Katrina
