This is why you had to have been playing these systems at the time to understand.N64's Resident Evil 2 port fit both scenarios, all the music, and all the FMV into around 64 MB of ROM space. That's an order of magnitude less than two CDs (~1.4GB) and still featured a slight graphical improvement.
I do remember the N64 having memory paks due to possibly insufficient space on the cart to store a savegame, but not every savable game needed them. We remember games like FF7 and the like for their stories and gameplay, not their FMVs, even though it was a neat novelty at the time to go with said gameplay.
This is fiction. The N64's biggest system seller was Mario 64.Zelda was the biggest system seller for 64 breh
They never finished the N64DD. It really wouldn't have helped anyway, because they lost so much 3rd party support that the gamecube utterly floundered. It was their Sega Saturn, basically. Your points are good, though I would note that you actually can't do the same on the PSX because of its technical limitations (access speeds, hardware beef). Even if a dev pared content down, it still has to be cached to RAM if it needs to be accessed immediately, among other things. This is why you had to have been playing these systems at the time to understand.
Resident evil 2 is probably the only example of a port with all features intact.
The cost to manufacture the cartridges were 15X the cost of psx games. And the limited storage was a issue for third party developers. Even if you feel like a lot of shyt could have been cut, that's where the gaming industry was at the time.
It didn't make sense to develop a game for the much more expensive N64, and be limited what you wanna add to the game due to the limited storage. You could do the same on the much cheaper psx for a fraction of the cost, and none of the Nintendo headache.
The cons outweighed the pros at the time when it came to game paks and cd roms.
If Nintendo thought the memory limit wasn't an issue, they wouldn't have been developing the 64DD.
I have it at 2nd behind zelda but it seems mario sold more than zelda so i wouldnt doubt ur claimsThis is fiction. The N64's biggest system seller was Mario 64.
They never finished because the console didn't sell enough for it to be profitable and the next Gen wasn't far away. They never finished the N64DD. I thought they released it and it failed in Japan. They put out a few first party titles for it I believe. They never finished the N64DD.
Funny how nintendo built their empire on shafting third parties and then wound up getting shafted by them at the turn of the millenium. They never finished because the console didn't sell enough for it to be profitable and the next Gen wasn't far away.
I will give you that the hardware of the N64 and benefits of cartridges, allowed for some amazing games. But those games were still limited to the small cart sizes. And the cost wasn't profitable to third parties, So they lost support.

damn never knew that
Nintendo selling RAREWARE was dumb as fukk. They made so many classics.
Miyamoto in particular was known for being jealous of Rare when they where given IP's, he hated Donkey Kong Country when it dropped. He probably pushed for Rare to be sold in the first place.
Miyamoto-san could be a salty guy when it came to Rare.“Donkey Kong Country proves that players will put up with mediocre gameplay as long as the art is good.” - Shigeru Miyamoto
Was that a real quote? I always though Miyamoto was a really nice guy. Never pictured him being this nasty.
