Why are non Knicks fans in here with their opinions? We can care less
The international players that develop are forged in the fire early, getting Kristaps as many minutes as possible and allowing him to play through his mistakes and is really the only way he will develop.
There's no one definitive way to develop a player. Having him defer to multiple teammates and take a backseat to them isn't good for his confidence and could instill bad habits (he already has a habit of settling for jumpers from reports I've read). You can get him a better quality 20 minutes off of the bench and let him EARN the starting spot. When he's ready to start, he starts, but before that he should brought along with care. In a second unit he can make mistakes and take more gambles without being detrimental to the Melo's or the LMA's (I wish) or even the Afflalo's who will be making too much money not to take the reps.
No force feeding minutes to players. Let him start with a 15-20 mpg role (which is still a good amount for a 19 year old rookie who has the body of a tweener at the moment) and build his instincts. Now Jerian Grant....that kid I expect to compete for a starting role. I'm sure Horace Grant is giving him a ton of inside info on the system.
He's the 4th pick in a very good draft, stop thinking about how he affects Melo and realize that Kristaps development is now the most important thing for the Knicks moving forward.
People forget that Thanasis is going to be a frenetic, tough, disruptive wing defender (assuming we sign him) -- that's a major advantage when considering these rosters and flexibility.
I'd happily sign Biyombo and Aminu to reasonable deals to get the defensive base, even if they're not our dream/longterm players. Brandan Wright is a weapon in that regard, too.
Danny Green would be great, though I don't think we get him. (LONG ISLAND STAND UP).
From there... I don't know that I'd want to max Monroe out... but I'd certainly consider him. Especially if it's going to be the shorter deal, like he's talking about.
if you like but I'll take Monta over Danny Green any day. I also wouldn't over pay Monta either. I think in Dallas he showed he can play within a team concept and the ball dominant chucker thing is overblown. Defensively he can't be any worse than Hardaway. I'd like more out of the 2 position than a "3 and D" guy. Sue me. NY needs a shot maker in addition to Melo. Someone who can finish a play. 1 trick, spot up in the corner ponies?

Breh,

Nah, when it comes to the foreign dudes there does seem to be a definitive way to develop them, and that's to throw as many minutes at them in their first 3 years as possible. He's not ready to be the focal point of an offense, and bringing him off the bench will more than likely mean he will be playing center which is something he shouldn't be doing. He needs to start the second half of the season, that is how all these good foreigners have been handledHe's the 4th pick in a very good draft, stop thinking about how he affects Melo and realize that Kristaps development is now the most important thing for the Knicks moving forward.
He doesn't have the body of a tweener, he's 230lbs which is fine for PF, he needs to add weight if you want him to play center but right now he can get away with playing a lot of minutes at the 4 as long as he has a center next to him.
Think about those players doing that & dealing with NY. It's a different situation entirely.Nope, Giannis played like shyt for most of his rookie year, Dirk looked like garbage water and was thinking of going back to Europe, Tony Parker was horrific, Ibaka was even more raw than Porzingis and was playing 20+mpg over the last two months of his rookie year.
Pressure creates diamonds breh, throw him out there and let him start the second half of the season. Keeping a player glued to the bench and never letting him play through his mistakes is more damaging than getting burn and failing.
Monta Ellis
Greg Monroe
David West
Build the team around KP and his development. Signing players just to make the playoffs and not be contenders is not the way to go. Only FA that makes the Knicks contenders immediately is Marc Gasol, no one else.
The emphasis should be on player development not making the playoffs
