This is an example of a movies being made significantly to appeal to social media debates/arguments. This was workshopped in a marketing room in west LA. I know movies and everything else have marketing attached, but pandering so glaringly to social media, it's not the way movies worked in the 90's. or anytime before 2016 or so. The filmmakers made a movie, that caused debate/outrage, not the other way around, ex. Fatal Attraction, Scarface, Dressed to Kill.

Agreed.

I think this is a series.

And I think this is "organic" in that T. Ross does this stuff for real....

But it also perfectly aligns with the "Travel Noire"/"Soft Life"/"Black Luxury/Black Girl Magic" thing that's been going on for a few years.

It doesn't look like it would cost more than what Bourdain spent to do his stuff. Betting it will cost more to promote than to produce.

Ha. Admit that all I saw was the frame, and thought it was a thriller, or an updated Eat Pray Love styled thing with a black icon. A travel show still fits what I am saying, switch in girls trip kind of social media branded posts, where traveling alone is a major political/social statement.

My misplaced commentary are for thrillers from the last few years, all streaming, or mostly streaming, that are constructed with social media debates in mind. Blink Twice isn't s stream, but that's one.

I love travelling where I used to do like 5 countries in 5 days type of ish, but even all of the memories all of the photos etc.

I'll take my wife and kid and going to the mall for a bite to eat over all my solo escapades

I love solo traveling too, so freeing. I have taken some great trips. I don't have your perspective on that, but I think people should for sure experience solo traveling, for it's own value, not as some kind of statement on singlehood.

There's just an inherent tension in traveling with a romantic/sexual partner, if it's not like 24 hrs in a hotel room. When it is longer trips and flight delays, it just exposes all the tension/and different approaches to life and traveling. I was in Mexico with a girlfriend, and she was like having a panic attack because we didn't get the BEST table at the spot, on the cliff, on the water, and I told her, give me 5 minutes, let him seat us, let the other people leave, and then we will move tables. And she was like losing it. I told her she could go sit at another table, and just let me chill, because she was ruining the sunset. I had never seen her act like that in the US.

For traveling, I can do luxury dinners and kick my feet up at the nicest hotel, but everyday I hit the streets. Like I push myself into the furthest parts of the city, dusty, dirty, dangerous, I have no fear. And even the coolest woman is not going to want to do that, so when you travel alone you can. Street taxis and taco stands, getting lost in dangerous areas, I don't take Ubers, I don't take tours.

Also, it's possible for me to push myself to the breaking point, and recover in a few minutes, when two people do that, it tends to last longer. For example, in Monterrey Mexico, I have a 12 AM dinner reservation, and I am wandering around near the spot, when I get a migraine. I can't find an OXXO store, I am lost, far away from my hotel, and for like 20 minutes, it was pretty bleak, my head was like cracking open. Then I found the OXXO, got some Advil, took all 4, and made my dinner reservation, had an incredible meal, the tension was all forgotten.

With a girlfriend, it would have been a whole ordeal.

@re'up is this true ??

Like all these videos, this is very hyperbolic. I have also been to Catch LA, like 7 years ago, so good reference.

My friends run that same game every weekend, and yeah, it still works to a degree. I think in the era of IPhones/dating apps/social media, if you are entertaining a group of attractive women -- which I avoid, I just sit there ---ex: (come sit at my table, have a drink, have a line) and trying to run the game of taking them all home, and letting it all sort itself out, you are now competing with dating apps/social media, to a degree, which wasn't true 20 years ago.

The distractions of other men and ther options in the club was always there, but now: the women just whip out their phones and have lets just say 6 other immediate options to choose from. A different club, a different bar, another house. A bigger yacht. And the visuals to compel them.

I think there was some quote in a social media book I read that said something like: 25 years ago, you could maybe have reasonable access to what a life looks 15% better than yours, now people have instant, immediate and intimate access to what billionaires are doing, and all the way down the chain. When I was about 18 in 2004, we knew rappers were ballers, but we didn't see what they ate for dinner every night. So yeah, right or wrong, women aren't going to be as crazy about a table with 42 and some designer clothes.

That dinner night was in San Pedro Garza, which yeah is nicer than even Beverly Hills, but Monterrey is a huge city, and even San Pedro Garza is neck deep in narcos, bodyguards, it's wild.

but that wasn't one of those times. Monterrey has seen plenty of action though, you are in a nerve center of drug trafficking and power. Plenty of public hangings, 30 person massacres, bodies dumped.

Every city in Mexico, even somewhere like Los Cabos, you go 15 minutes out of the tourist area, it all changes. You can see the punteros, the drug spots, the dusty streets, the unpaved roads.

I've spent most of this year out the country, this shyt is global, other countries are just a little behind due to the West being trend setters, also dudes confuse sometimes when chicks know you are somewhere short term but are attracted they tend to be on their best behavior to "enjoy the moment", same way American chicks are layups on their girls trips or vacations
Yeah ive been in Africa (southern and eastern) the majority of this year and its the same shyt but on a slightly lower level
