you are not fooling a real basketball aficionado like me.

No. I Think You Just ASSUME That Cuz Im FROM NY. Why The Hell Would I Be Tryna Bring Down Grant Hill Because We Signed Allan Houston? I Dont See The Sense In That. I Have No Issues With Allan Houston, Grant Hill, Or The Pistons.I Dunno How You Made Up This Wild Assumption.

well, for you to dispute facts, perception and actual reality.
you must have something against grant hill.
i admit, i hated any duke player because to this day.
i feel a scandal occurred in their defeat of unlv.
plus, he re-invigorated a pistons squad.
whom, along with the cav's are the mortal bball enemies of any chicagoan of the mj era, period.

yet, and still...
grant hill won me over by actually dispelling the duke curse.
plus showing incredible mettle as a blackman.
to achieve and rampup through actual hardwork and execution out of nowhere.
so for you, to downplay...
one of the best templates of black male excellence in sports history for our gen.
who argueably if not for injury,..
would HAVE BEEN the best black role sports model with no question.
is a slight that can not be ignored...
you were simply hating, and it is welled and stems from in ny bias, bigotry and jealous.
which is easily identifiable.
when, you bring the actual characteristics of your posting history and past content into consideration.

you not fooling me, breh-breh......

you on, some wedgie miller versus spike lee type tongue and cheek hating fifteen to twenty years later damn near hating, breh.

you will not be allowed to hate on, one of the most postive respectful black men of our gen, period.

grant hill is what you strive to be as a black man, period.

But we had a 6 year sample breh...

22/8/6 on 47% shooting and on its way up is not good enough for you? :dwillhuh:

He was asserting himself as the best player in the league after Jordan hung up the sneakers. I don't think its overrating him at all...just a clear sign that we were robbed a bit. I think Penny was the most overrated out of the bunch of potential what ifs tbh, but thats another thread.
"....asserting himself as the best player in L after Jordan retired". My nikka, Shaq was easily the 3rd best player in the league by '98. And it wouldn't be stretch to call him Malone's equal that year.

Shaq's '98-'02 run is arguably the GOAT peak, Hill wasn't gonna top that.

In his prime name 5 better players and please don't expose yourself by saying Kobe.

He was marketed very similarly to Bron in the mid 90's, he was making TV appearances, Sprite commercials, and all sorts of shyt, the problem is 2/3's of you guys were too young to see him in the early years. He was a hybrid type forward, like Scottie Pippen but with a higher ceiling (but not as good as a defender). Other thing was, he played for a bad Detroit team that dumped him after he played all those games on a bad ankle.

:rudy: Your post was on point til you went and said that dumb shyt at the end. Detroit didn't dump Grant. Joe D was at that nikka hard trying to get him to resign, but much like his super-saiyan off spring, he elected to vacate his midwest surroundings and take his talents to the Florida sun to attempt to form a super team with T-Mac and Duncan. But of course Duncan staying in San Antonio and Hills ankle fukked it all up.

The only reason it was a sign and trade was so that Grant could get more money. The fact that the deal became the foundation for Detroit's championship run is just a lucky by product and terrible attempt at revisionist history if viewed otherwise.

And the Bron comparison's are probably the closest. Grant's game is like the little brother to Lebron's. Clearly not as explosive athletically or as a scorer, but the overall games are very similar. Lebron is just without question better. I wouldn't put him above Durant either, because while Grant had a better all around game, I don't think he excelled at the other facets that much more than Durant. However Durant is a much better scorer imo. I think he'd be a notch below those guys if he was dropped in the current NBA.

I wouldn't even call him a #2 , which I think to many people are quick to do these days. His issue is he never really had a legit #2 -5. Houston seemed like he was on his way, then he bolted for NY. Brian Williams/Bison Dele was a lil out there, then went the way of the SS Minnow with the help of his brother :manny:. After that his best teammates were probably Stackhouse (1 yr), Terry Mills, an old ass Joe D, Lindsey Hunter and a few other non descript nikkas. His game was very much capable of being #1 caliber. His last year with the Pistons, where in addition to the swiss army like game, he had honed his scoring prowess was :wow:. He basically had put it all together, post game, killer mid-range, great off the dribble and could snatch the reb and run the offense. This nikkas no carry cross-over and first step were :ohlawd: too. He was a bonafide superstar on and off the court.

Yeah, that nikka was taking no prisoners at the rim. And the handle to get by folks wasn't even no intricate shyt. Just the slightest hesitation, quick change of direction with that crossover, and that nikka was gone. Still think he has one of the most explosive first steps I've seen.

Edit: And if can find that video of Grant to Lindsey inbounds oop play to win the game against the celtics with .03 seconds left I'm posting that shyt too. shyt is still one of my favorite Piston highlights ever. fukking pass was perfect.

As far as dudes who were putting up just as good if not better #s during Hills best years 97-99

Kevin Garnett
Tim Duncan
Shaq
Chris Webber
Karl Malone
Allen Iverson
Jordan

Were all just as good or better during his prime...and had better careers. As somebody who grew up during that time...Grant Hill was definitely one of the best all around players and only getting better. But its not blasphemy to say KD and Melo are better...maybe not all around game...but overall players...i'd give them the nod.

What was his game like in his prime and where do you think he'd rank if he didn't get injured?

I'm drawing blanks
I always look at it like this:

Grant Hill was the next better version of Scottie Pippen or Lebron before Lebron except he's not as big and strong (physically) as Lebron. He had

  • Pippen's speed but slightly faster
  • Pippen and Lebron's court awareness
  • Not as great defensively as either of the two but still a GREAT defender
  • THe one place he was clearly better than both was his post-up game.
  • His jumper needed work but was still decent

Dude was destined to be a mega start for real. Then came the injuries :sadcam:

That b!tch named Injury done robbed us of many great athletes yo.:fire: Antonio McDyess is another example of a superstar that we never saw reach his potential due to injury.
