I'm getting real sick of these red hats on social media constantly arguing that the democrats are to blame for the continued shut down. then when I give a rebuttal with the actual facts

the Republican CR on the table funds food stamps, and Republicans don't have any obligation to fund the ACA at the level the democrats want the Dems lost in november. if protecting the ACA was so important, they shouldn't have fukked up the 2024 nomination/election so badly

so the Dems are using the shutdown to fight for more ACA money, and that's fine, but it IS their shutdown. 52/53 Republicans voted to open the government. 3/47 Democrats voted to open it.

My thing is that sometimes to save people, you have to make tough choices and sacrifices, even if it comes at a cost. You can either stand by and watch people suffer, or you can do something that will likely cost you, but it's the chance you take to save people.

We know it's Trump and the GOP's issue but they don't care. They have no conscience, compassion, or qualms in seeing the damage they're doing, so people going through hardships due to the shutdown don't resonate with them.


It's not the Democrats' fault at all for what's happening, but I just don't think it's wise to sit on your hands as people suffer from a food crisis, potentially a home/shelter crisis, among other issues, even though the reason for doing so has merit. Yes, people will be upset that you folded, but at the same time, they'll see that you did it for a greater reason, to prevent people from suffering any longer.

At the beginning of the shutdown, when things weren't so bad, the Democrats' position of standing still made sense, but as days and weeks have gone by with no signs of resolution anywhere, and people are starting to feel the pain, holding out longer is risky for millions of people's livelihoods and well-being. It was a noble act but at this stage of the shutdown, they may need to rethink their strategy.
