Stallone and Arnold were before my time but doing research it seems they were more concerned with putting out great action flicks, box office #s and showing off their gains, than getting academy awards. They both still happened to put out classics. Stallone with Rocky, which is still getting films to this day & Rambo. Arnold with Terminator, which is getting another movie this year.

Rock seems cut from that same cloth as those 2. He's not getting any academy awards anytime soon and seems more interested in putting out great action flicks and showing off his body. But I'm looking at his filmography and I dont see anything that resembles a classic. What Rock movie will we be watching 20 years from now? What franchise has he created where there will be films 20 years from now, like Terminator and Rocky?

Truth be told, damn near all of those iconic characters/movies you mention happened by luck:

- Stallone did commentary on 'First Blood' saying nobody wanted to do the film and even he thought it would flop while filming.

- All the major studios turned down Terminator and nobody believed in James Cameron.

- Bruce Willis was told not to do 'Die Hard' and nobody thought it would blow up like that.

It happened even recently with 'John Wick' which nobody really saw coming. Moral of the story is, you can't always predict what's gonna be a classic or an actor "picking the perfect role"...it just happens when it happens. :manny:

Which is why it's disappointing that he doesn't have a Rocky, a Terminator, a True Lies, a Die Hard...

The franchise would sell itself. Just a simple action movie franchise...minimal cgi, just guns, fists and explosions.

He's big, he can sell fight scenes, he has charisma...not really sure what his problem is.

The superhero era has killed new franchises ... ( John Wick & Taken are anomalies )

Captain America, Iron MAN, sUPES, Batman are todays Rockys and Rambos

It's not so much Superhero films killed new franchises, movie studios want films that have built in fanbases already established.

They rather sink 100-200 mil in something that's gonna return 400-600 million globally than something that costs 20-50 million and is only gonna return 70-80 million.

Its simple business, people don't go to the theater anymore in droves for movies unless it is blockbuster status. They wait for it to come on TV unless it's that rare Get Out or Quiet Place film that gets people going.

There's too many other options out there for potential customers.

This is exactly what Marvel has done ... if comic films didn't exist
It would be movie stars fighting each other for the summer slots like the past :mjtf:

Yeah, but comic book films just have the ball now. It was disaster films before. Period-action dramas before that. And before that it was action sci-fi films.

There's always a genre that kills everything else commercially. The difference now is, there's so much other entertainment options available, movie companies invest only what will sell.

No one goes to the movies quite like they did. Evidence of that is Gone with the Wind being the biggest movie all time BY FAR when adjusted for inflation and like 9 of the other 10 of the biggest movies of all time are 30 or more years old.

Spider-verse cost more made less = Success
Shazam cost less made more = Flop

:jbhmm:

FFH cost less made more.

I wouldn't call Shazamm a flop as much as DC films in general a fukking flop.

He outchea trying to steal the FF franchise from Diesel and friends while him and Bautista guard the galaxy.

If a wrestler not even half as iconic can get a role in the MCU, he could have easily stepped to them and said find me something to do.
