why do yall always conveniently use em and dre to deflect 50s impact on his own?

what did ems co-sign do for d12, stat quo, obie trice, or cashis? what did dre's co-sign do for hitman or truth hurts or all of his other non-white post death row co-signs prior to 50? he couldnt even do shyt for game until 50 came into the picture

Breh, when Obie Trice came out, we didn't see Eminem AND Dre with him on MTV and doing XXL covers. Do you not remember seeing them with 50 Cent literally everywhere:

I don't recall Dre being on promo runs with Truth Hurts. Eminem being in interviews with Obie Trice. He had to do interviews with D-12 because he was in the group.

It doesn't make it any less Pop though. "In Da Club" is a smash, 50 was out here doing melodies and adopting sing songy type flows no different than Nelly. Not to mention, he had kind of a slurred flow similar to Mase (who again was kind of in the Nelly lane). And speaking of Mase, he had that Southern kind of tone to his raps, but he wasn't dismissed for it because he was from NY.

GRODT is a street album. Country Grammar is not a street album, lol.

DMX had mad #1 albums in a row. That doesn't make them pop albums. I'm not talking about hits. I'm talking about the actual content on the albums. Something becoming a hit is very different from comparing pop-rap and Hip Hop records that become hits.

Nobody cared about 50 being from NY. He was always from NY, and he couldn't get his label to release his album when Hip Hop was at its most bankable, and he had one of the biggest records in the city in '99. When NY was hot and Canibus, X, Jay, Big Pun, Nore, Nas, and mad other artists were going gold 15 mins after they dropped, 50 couldn't even get his album released, and dude had a huge radio record. Being from NY isn't going to do anything for you anymore. People need to let that go. 50 was doing the southern thing with his tones back in the 90's. It's always been a part of what he did. He always said he learned that from JMJ. He told him to incorporate things from other sources that influenced him. Mase and 50 had hits. Period. That's why they were winning at the time. These dudes had some the biggest records during their runs.

Hittman was all over the chronic 2001 in the same vein of snoop on the first chronic and still didnt blow up

The first thing we see and hear on the lead single/video of Eminems 2002 album is "Obie Trice, real name no gimmicks!", the most talked about line from that same song is "Mobie you can get stomped by Obie!". Obie Trice just as much was given a huge push by Eminem without half of the buzz that 50 Cent was able to accumulate for himself on his own prior to signing

Are you aware of the buzz 50 Cent had in 2002 before ever signing to Shady/Aftermath? He was the hottest shyt in the north east off of mixtapes. THAT is why they stood next to him in the beginning, because they won the bidding war to sign him and part of that rollout was the XXL cover and the MTV interview because they knew they had something big, they didn't just sign some random nikka and say "we're gonna rally together and give him a huge push and hope for the best".. they already had a sure thing

Dre was on BET with Truth Hurts, mad times. He did the same with Game. Em was always with Obie. 106 & Park, MTV, etc. Cheers is a platinum album because Em put a lot of work in with helping to market and promote that project. He signed dude years before the album even dropped. He was a true Shady artist, no Aftermath under the umbrella for that one. And Em executive produced the project, so he was definitely out there try’na get the world to know dude's name. Throwing him in movies and on soundtracks. And I loved Cheers, but Obie is no 50 Cent. 50's buzz before GRODT was off the charts just off mixtapes. There was no way that all hands weren't going to be on deck to make sure he succeeded. Dude was a bonafide star.

I see both sides of this.

You can't really compare 50 to Nelly because 50 was relatively well known in the underground off mix tapes, etc.

However, the vast majority of people that copped "GRODT" wasn't the same fans as the mix tapes. Dude went 9x plat.

Hell, the average person I talked to that owned "GRODT" never even heard "How To Rob". I had to retroactively tell people about all that shyt.

Fred.

50 Cent is the Future
No Mercy No Fear
Gods Plan
Automatic Gunfire
Get Rich or Die Tryin
Beg For Mercy
GRODT OST
The Massacre
(and that's not counting the G Unit Radio mixtapes he released all throughout his run at the top)

That is why he's held in high regard, however long its been since he stopped being popular doesn't diminish the impact he made and material he released when he was popular

Even though it was great to me as a fan at the time, I think they made a HUGE mistake giving so much shyt away essentially for free after they blew up. The movement was so insular

Breh, Hittman being all over 2001 is neither here or there. To this day, how many people even know what Hittman looks like. Dre wasn't doing interviews with Hittman.

And my point wasn't just about Eminem. Dre AND Eminem were pushing 50 HARD. And Obie Trice was not pushed as hard as 50. 50 had a single/video for "Wanksta" off 8 Mile. This was followed up by a Dr. Dre produced "In Da Club".

They stood next to 50 because a mixtape and a street buzz wasn't going to get him Dre and Eminem type numbers. NOTHING in the industry is a sure thing, so they made sure that he had a mainstream push so that he crossed over. In 2002, people STILL thought 50 Cent was a brand new artist not realizing this dude had already ruffled the feathers of heavyweights in the game with "How To Rob". Most didn't even know the beef with Ja Rule was on long before the Aftermath/Shady deal.

That's like 9 bodies of work that are considered timeless and legendary by most people...or at the very least memorable. Even if you don't agree with 1 or 2 of them, them shyts are all known around the world. And you didn't even mention the G-Unit solos that are known around the world. Comparing 50 Cent to Nelly is stupid, who actually have you ever heard or seen talk about a Nelly album? Lol.
