Do you know how far $2,500 goes here in Oak Cliff? My 2 story house mortgage is only $1500 and I live in a nice predominately black cul-de-sac.:ohlawd:
I still cant fathom ppl paying 2500 just to live in close quarters with other people:mjlol:

If i pay even half that much, it would have to be a house.

A cul de sac would be even better because of less traffic.

I dont give a flying fukk about living in the center of all the action:mjlol:

Ya see i have always preached that if you pay high rent you should get value for your money

Paying 2k plus for a fukking shoebox has never made sense

I remember the i am never home crowd.....who fooled them self into overpaying for a rubix cube because they want to be near some overpriced hipster clubs and coffee shops

Extra disposable income that you arent tossing into overpriced rent would let you enjoy those same things more than proximity to them

Developers and landlords really ran a con game because when people miss 2 months of payment their asses are scrambling now asking for handouts

But they wanted a kidney when you wanted to rent their spot....

Na they were raising rent every year withiut any improvements and thought they were genius masters of the universe

This. Living cramped up on top of each other in cities of millions looks worse than ever now when infectious diseases break out

All over artificial "demand" over speculation. Those crooks now seeing these people leaving urban areas for other places.

Harlem via Brooklyn
I was wondering about this the other day. I understand young folks desires to be in the cool part of the city, especially those who went away to school and view it as an extension of campus life.

My regards to anyone struggling, but as @Wild self said, I can’t see how anyone would want to live on top of one another and in close quarters after this? With distance learning and working readily available, how can anyone seriously not consider a bit more exposure to nature, space, at a price that is reasonable?

Then move because that sounds like stupid clown ass shyt that bytches fall for. 3 bedroom, den, laundry room, and I damn sure wouldnt pay 2500 unless Christina Milian licks my toes every night as part of the deal.
Everyone has different values. Moving further out, typically means a longer commute and I personally feel my time is more valuable than any dollar amount. I'd pay a high rent if it meant a 10 minute commute vs a 2 hour commute and cheaper rent.

Exactly. Social distancing and working from home is the game changer. Especially people who are paranoid of catching the virus.

There are reasonable mediums to be had...

Would I pay more for a shorter commute to my job....sure

But if I pay that premium I still expect VALUE FOR MONEY in my spot relative to the money I pay..

In other words even if I pay 3500 a month because its closer to my work I still fukking expect that the apartment is comfortable, spacious and decently appointed. No cramped fukking bathrooms and decent layout

Basically the point I am getting at is that I see units marketed as luxury apartments and I be like....HOW :what::what::what:

Where do you stay? 2 hour commute seems like an exaggeration. Dallas, Atlanta even spots in la you’re only like 10-25 minutes away from hotspots. I can’t speak on up north.

I live in MD and the post I was quoting was talking about renting in the DC area. A two hour commute is not an exaggeration at all driving or otherwise.

As a real live DC (NE) nikka born and bred from Gault Place, I agree 1 million percent that $2500 will only get you a studio or jr 1 bedroom West of the River. East of the River on the other hand :francis: and I’m from EOR. I work down by Nats park and them shyts is going up like erector sets :whoo: you got one bedrooms going for $4500 over there :mindblown: I make good money but even my six figure azz couldn’t afford a home in SE, SW and NE and I tired. Went through the Gr8ter Wash Urban League program and DC Gov’t still only gave me $8k :gucci: Now a former coworker of mines she only made $54k and got $85k from DC :mjcry: that’s how that shyt works in DC... So I expanded my search and went through the MD first time home buyer program. MD ended up giving me like $26k for down payment and closing. That shyt helped a whole lot. My good credit allowed me to do a conventional loan which allowed me to prepay my PMI which wasn’t crazy expensive. I ended up buying a townhome in Annapolis (7 min from Downtown Annapolis) with a garage and private elevator :banderas:I recently did a refi, now my mortgage is $1,360. The goal is to stay in it another year then rent it out and move closer to the city.

You got any links to these units?

I would be curious to see what exactly a $4500 a month 1 bedroom gives me in terms of value?

Lol that would be the perfect illustration of my point

Those are YOUR values. Being close to work and central to activities is key to others. Size may not be what they value, maybe only amenities and location.

Not everyone wants/needs a large space either. I prefer a condo, however grateful in a lock down situation to have a yard.

Damn it’s like that in the DMV? I have a buddy who makes like 80k working for the DOD and he always complains about being broke.
$80k is a good salary, but depending on the individual’s financial circumstance and goals, may not be enough. I know for what I want to do with my money, it wouldn’t be enough.
