If i was a league owner, anyone who ever said if it aint on url it dont matter, would never be booked for an event regardless of status
But why though? Think like a businessman. Who gives a fukk if they're half-assing it as long as they're bringing in people to pay for the event?

Been looking at the way big name talent emerges (it doesn't) in battlerap, and I'm kind of at loss.

How will the new top dogs really be born? I'm talking like late 2013 to now. It seems like all the "next up" talent aren't really becoming the next big thing. Not saying there haven't been a few successful dudes, but how many dudes who were new to the scene 1-2 years ago are undeniable top talent (like selling mad tickets) now? Am I being impatient? Is it just rare to find a star? Or are the current toptier/vets rooted in place because they were battling before battling was what it is today?

i came to this conclusion due to process of elimination, everything else has already been done for a couple of dudes and they still never broke through so this has to be the only reason right?

I think the last two things in bold are a big part of why things are the way they are.
There are no more career stopping losses, there are no more battlers retiring at their peak to pursue music. We don't want to let go of the top tiers that we like the most, and barring something drastic, we don't have to. If you ask me, the older guys are more dynamic, there was no farm system in place it was just a collection of the most compelling battle rap talent they could find. Math & Rex weren't even active battlers at the time, URL brought them back to battling. Cortez, Hollow & Verb were active, but when was X-Factor's last battle prior to URL? What about Young Miles?
We saw Shotgun Suge make a major comeback in 2015, and that was more important than any of the new guys flourishing. He's just a more interesting watch. K-Shine and DNA started taking battling serious again in 2015, and they were more entertaining than all the new guys. We want to see Qleen come back more than we want to see any of the newer guys. Truthfully some of us are more interested in Yung Ill somehow getting that old magic back than a new guy blowing up.

Its a lot more difficult for a couple reasons for one....the new/recent talent don't put themselves out there like that. No blogs, no YouTube segment. Nothing to strive on to make themselves stand out in marketing and promo.

Most of them still sound like each other....it's like a big ass merry go round. Seen one, you seen most of them.

They pick dumb ass battle rap names that don't appeal to a fukkin soul.

Its not any grudge matches goin on, battle rap as a whole aint nowhere near competitive as it used to be, which would build anticipation/excitement thus ticket sales. They're names don't hold weight on they're own so why grudge matches ain't being made is crazy.

Last and most critical....They are not killin a damn thing in.that ring to.make anybody say "nah hold up....who the fukk is this dude??!?".

That's why Brizz, Top & Chess stood out above they're class and honestly most of the class before them.

T-Top is already where he wants to be. Chess needs a couple big matches and he will be right there with Top. I know a lot of you guys don't like Chess, but the demand is there, and his appeal is more unique. I can't see Brizz having that same type of draw as those two though. I'm not sure he does anything in particular that makes another well known battler want to battle him. I've never heard a battler on his level call him out. I've never heard any of the vets say they are interested in battling him. DNA was clearly uninterested. Danny gets called out all the time. The Saga gets called out more than Brizz. Is there anyone who can say "Brizz is my favorite"? Maybe the interest will pick up after the DNA battle, we will see.

Good responses from the legit TBZ posters..

So let me ask this.. Am I the only one who can't even imagine any of the current bubbling dudes (Top, Brizz type) having THAT performance. Like, I have a hard time even imagining those guys putting on undeniable classics on stage. And I like Top, Brizz just fine, but I think there's something missing? Charisma? Command? Is it just their cadence? Or just lack of history?

The wild thing is, when I think objectively (not stan shyt).. the most likely dude I can see having that performance/match/moment that shakes battle rap ...is Chess. Something about his energy and how he pretty much 100% commits makes me think he's the most likely to really blow up. For a while I thought it'd be Brizz, but he seems to have hit a ceiling, or at least entered a zone that doesn't have that "epic" feel.
