That’s why i think it stems from him being reduced a bit on Champion. It sounds like he got jealous that Tech’s schedule was being catered to and not his and i think that’s why Blac made a point to talk about him reviewing battles on his own channel.

Vada lives 2 hours away man. Him being on Champion as much as tech was never realistic.

Nah. Thesaurus & Illmac have so many little b*stards running around up and down the West Coast, that style will never die, KOTD/GT type battlers they are dime a dozen in the Bay area. Just like Philly will never ever run out of battlers who know how to flow.

You don’t think “street” style battle rap can take over in the West? If guys like Rum Nitty, B Dot, Geechi Gotti, Danny Myers, etc start dominating these cards, I can see other rappers incorporating that style. Even Illmac and The Saurus are way more bar heavy than they were back in the day.

The West is so big and has so many spitters from nerd/backpack to street style, there is room for both. Iif you look at the history of West Coast rap, it's always accommodates both style. Its just the gang culture in the West didnt make it really viable to have a permanent street league outside of the Bay area.

The incorporation of a street style has always been there, people been talking about killing each other in rap battlers since forever, doesnt matter if its black, white, beige, brown, yellow, green and anything in between. The difference being the over reliance on long multis by the nerds/whites/backpackers and saying shyt just to make the next multi rhyme. While the street battlers, didnt care about how many one word long multi syllables they can fit in, it is about getting to the point as quickly as possible, hence the flow of the street battlers is better than the other styles, you can use Diz as an example. It's just over the last couple of years of the URL talent going over to KOTD, the styles have blended into one another, so its not really a case of us vs them, any more. It's like when the street guys use to clown the nerd/white guys about jokey bars, when jokey bars have become more implemented into the street style as well, but don't be fooled jokey bars in street bars have always been there. And because of the likes of Diz, Hollow, DNA and a couple of others, more street battlers are incorporating freestyle rebuttals into the rounds now.

Thesaurus/Illmac had to evolved because nearly everyone post 2007 and not a street battler copied their style.

Nah the backpack style will start dying out because the people who pushed that style to the forefront, have moved on.

Dizaster, Saurus, Illmac etc. don't seem to be that interested in battling the guys that have been propped up to take their place anymore. They've been doing that for years, and no one has really come through the ranks and proved to be a draw. Carter Deems, Psychoses, Gjonaj, P-Nut, J-Pro, A. Ward...

Okwerdz is retired, Dumbfoundead is retired.

Just like GrindTime, all those overhyped create a players that were a part of the scene will slowly disappear.

You're making too much sense here. Don't do that.

I feel like street style battle rap in the West has only been getting more shine over the last couple years or so. I remember back in the GT days, people used to try and marginalise rappers that used gun bars.

You’re right in regards to URL rappers going to KOTD made gun bars “cool” for that market but I still feel like they have an “us vs them” mentality. Even with the way they make matchups and put the “really street” guys against people like Charron and Caustic. Those matchups have always been corny to me because they force people to “pick a side” before anyone even starts rapping.

He's from Florida.

Well we know the backpackers from the GT, the named guys, who came from the freestyle era, battled at Scribble Jam, Jump Off etc. So they already had a known fanbases in their different regions. I dont see the backpack scene dying completely, in the west, as battle rap has a strong foundations in the Bay area and they will always produce battlers of all types, everything goes in cycles. And as long as the likes of a Lush One and others care it will never truly be phased out.

TheSaurus, Illmac & Diz tbh they've done more than enough for the scene in various ways, I have no issue with them no longer giving the up and comers a chance.

In the recent years, yeah, I can see that. Daylyt did speak on it how in GT they wouldn't really fukk with the street type shyt heavy when them dudes was spittin', too. I was big int GT for the clownin' and jokes and shyt but seeing the street shyt on that league was a good change up. I honestly don't care if you're street, backpack, or nerdy...just be good at what the fukk you're doing, don't choke, and try to win. Because all this it needs to be one style shyt gets corny and its not interesting in battle rap, imo.

I feel like the West did need the look for the street style scene tho. But I don't think that means backpack or whatever you wanna call that shyt will go away. Hell some other shyt may develop from it because lets not front like the West don't take chances on trying new shyt.

I was big on both Smack DVD and GT and I remember specifically people like Daylyt, QP and Fresco getting clowned on GT for having gun bars. I agree with you, I’m a fan of rap in general so as long as people are good, then I’ve got time to listen to them. However, I do feel like GT/KOTD/Fresh Coast spent a long time pushing a narrative that was intentionally divisive.

Those match up have always taken place and always will do, especially when a white battler can do something that makes the audience no matter where they are, going :ohhh:. Iron Solomon made a career out of that.

Matchmaking is important, you know why they put Charron & Caustic's of the world up vs the really Street Guys, because Charron can freestyle and rebuttal, which will make the crowd pop and he wont shyt the bed completely vs the Street Dudes. Caustic has a doesnt give a fukk attitude and will say something below the belt and offensive, once again to make the crowd pop or get people talking about it online. These sort of match up's have helped evoled the street battlers more, because theyve also learnt how to cater to different audiences, even if alot of the time the guys only did half the prep time.

Lets not act that White/backpacker calling out people from urban environments about them not really busting their guns doesnt happen in street battles as well. End of the day you suppose to rip the other person down to shreds to beat them.

People been picking sides before anything happened since day dot, its human nature.

No new backpack style star has emerged on the West Coast, so it will probably go back to where it was right after Grind Time collapsed.
