I actually liked both complaints you have.

Not saying you’re wrong or I’m right.

This will be a film you either enjoy or don’t. You might watch it again and like it for what it is, I might think i overreacted with my response.

But my audience was lit for it. Dude next to me screamed out oh my god, and the chick next to me kept jumping lol. My desensitized ass was locked in. And after the movie ended the crowd gave it an ovation.

I feel like if you fukks with the og series, which isn’t good at all, most people will like it. IMO

I come out of the movie thinking it’s the perfect tubi movie that got green lit with a Hollywood budget and theatrical release

We all have our own opinions and see things different....nothing wrong with that.

I fux with the OG, and I don't see this one growing on me at all :yeshrug:

The OG wasn't high cinema by any means but the cast plus the tension made up for that. I find it hard to believe that those who DO mess with the OG like that would stand up and give this new one a standing ovation lol. There's a difference between campy bad writing that's more of a sign of the times then just straight up bad writing which this end falls in line with (to me).

I could almost get on board with them pushing the envelope wit Ray but...

"I want them to remember 1997, they tried to erase us" soooo lemme body the one mf podcaster who was tryna bring it byke to light :skip:

And I'm definitely not rollin' wit Stevie and her bullshyt :skip:

To each their own tho. Like I said, it was decent up until ole girl made her dream appearance, then from the boat on. Little too much shock value and nostalgic baiting for me tho.

Can someone tell me why The Descent is so hyped? I saw it a few weeks ago and it’s an average creature feature. I’m tempted to say it’s hyped because it’s an all female cast. :ld:

I watched House of 1000 Corpses (theatrical cut). First watch since around 2007. I didn’t care for it back then. After a second watch it’s all right.
The best way to look at The Descent is with the perspective that it came out five years before Insidious and eight years before The Conjuring. There was no jump scare craze at the time. So, people went to theaters completely unprepared for a claustrophobic, super dark, jumpscare fest that covers the first three quarters of the movie. If you went to the movies to see it, the audience elevated the experience a lot. Word of mouth helped the hype spread like crazy.

I usually point out Paranormal Activity as a "you had to be there to understand" flick, but I think this is one of 'em too. Paranormal Activity came out two years later, too.

I'd also add that I think the ending still holds up. It's chaotic, action-packed, and cathartic as hell. The first 3/4's of the movie don't hold up as well, but that's partially because they inspired a lot of what followed. I love the Netflix movie the Ritual, and it's got pretty clear influence from the Descent's premise.

We caught the remake/sequel whatever they are calling it of 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' this afternoon and first I'll say that she absolutely loved it. She's 27 but still loving the 90s nostalgia and I did too. I don't think I liked it as much as her but I saw critics were completely tearing it apart and I'm not going to do what today. This was fun! I will say, I did not love most of the new additions to the cast, their acting was spotty at best but the old guard more than made up for it with their presence. The white girl who is supposed to be the new age Sarah Michelle Gellar was kinda nice, not gonna lie. The kills were solid, nothing real memorable about them. The story, once it got going, left us guessing and there's plenty of twists and turns to keep you engaged. She saw one twist coming a mile away but there's other twists neither of us saw coming. Jennifer Love-Hewitt has gotten thick and I'm not mad at it, she looks good for her age. Spoilers below.

Speaking of looking good for her age, I didn't know SMG was going to be in this! and she looked nice! They might have did something to her, I don't know for sure because she was looking young. But I liked what I saw and was happy to see her. Her scene was dope.

Some things didn't quite make sense like, in reality, I don't think these dumb kids understand the law at all. They weren't going to go to jail if they just called the police and let them sort it out. Yeah, one of the kids was in the road but that's not going to be a manslaughter charge especially at the speed the truck was going. This was kinda ridiculous and we laughed every time they brought up what "they did" because it really wasn't even that bad compared to what the OG cast did to the fisherman in '97 Lmao.

Jennifer Love-Hewitt was a highlight for me personally and they had some balls to turn FPJ into one of the killers. His motivations, kinda made sense? Honestly, I can see how he got to the point he was at with it. I don't think it was a stretch at all
Will love to hear y'all thoughts on this when you all see it. I liked it for what it was. :manny:

Besides some plot whole points, my other issue was the acting from the younger cast. It’s why I said it feels like a tubi movie disguised with a Hollywood budget

The new SMG’s boyfriend is the protagonist in the upcoming film Him.

He did okay here. His character was supposed to shine but he kinda fell flat sometimes.

He’s got his work cut out for him if he hasn’t improved.

I didn't realize that was him. Yeah, he wasn't that good so I'm wondering about that....

Did you stay after the credits?

No, we didn't stay. There was a scene?

For the first hour and some change, I was preparing to come in and give this shyt sum props...

The "accident" was a bit preposterous for me, but after that, they were actually doing a good job, I thought. Bringing in some modern tropes like murder podcasts + therapy talk without being too cringe with it. Turning up the gore on some of the kills. And the cast, not as iconic as the OG of course, but they are carrying their own weight.

And then...

They bring Helen Shivers back....in a mf dream sequence that was Turrible. We already had y'all pulling on the cache of Ray + Julie for nostalgic purposes so this shyt wasn't even needed smh.

The revel of the killer being Stevie??? They were already pissing me off at this point cuz Teddy was beating da shyt out of one of dem mfs...then they try to remedy that by making Ray be the 2nd killer?? What are we doing cuz?? :mindblown:

They clearly wanted to subvert expectations to avoid copying the OG beat for beat, but I'm doing so, they stepped on their own product. Such a got damn nosedive :gucci:

Was gonna check it out but figured will just wait for streams

This a pic from Scary Movie where the Wayans parodied both Scream and I Know what you did last summer.

The original name for Scream was Scary Movie

It was fine for a matinee, we enjoyed it well enough :manny:

I saw the budget was like $15-20M and I'm a bit lost on how it cost that much. It can't be for the legacy actors I wouldn't expect. Not at this stage. There's horror movies with a budget that is 1/4th of the size and look better.
