Well I don't think they have to. They're told they have to, but many refuse. I think there's also a conversation to be had about why some bw would rather die alone than settle and are completely fine with that.

Neither side sees the benefits anymore, and/or the benefits simply aren't outweighing the costs.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said. His target audience and the people who made him what he is are several generations of Black women.

And what he said here on camera seems to be the theme of his early films. I've never sat through a full TP film but working class men + professional women seems to be common pairings of the lead characters.

And he doesn’t get ANY credit for that
