As an engineer this is nothing new. That is why defense contractors are the top hirers of black engineers. No surprise if it wasn't for government, city jobs, education jobs and manufacturing jobs such as automotive there would have never been a black middle class.

One more thing. Lockheed Martin is the number 1 employer of black engineers in the country. Now let that sink in.

This is very true, I have a friend who applied to the top tech companies and they couldn't make it past the physical interview. They liked them over the phone because they didn't have a voice that could determine if they were black or not. However when they went to the real interview they didn't call back. Too chocolate for technology brehs.

Tell him to apply to defense. They have to keep those minorities in order to get those contracts.

well actually some do, they just arent very successful at it. I've read up on cats opening up car washes, bbq joints and even a mall that eventually flopped.

Actually many invest it and do pretty well. If you are investing in the items listed above you will have a high failure rate period.

How do you explain Asians and Indians being over represented then?

Often times those folks are used as a foot in Asia and other countries. When it is time to move plants, implement projects or manage workers in these areas these folks will be used. Also they are often times willing to work for less. They can hire a bunch of Indians and Asians with degrees and pay them 30k instead of paying Tyrone and Tracy 60k. Why do you think a defense company will come in and hire a whole graduating class at Jackson St. Well they need to keep that big government contract and so they need black candidates and employees. I have worked in commercial and defense and both groups of minories are being used for an end result. Because at the end of the day the folks in charge look nothing like the minorities.

Look at the graph in the middle of the article. You can view different companies by using the pull-down menu. Those numbers are terrible, breh. :mjcry:

Black people are nonexistent at those companies.

I keep telling people, where I work its a top 100 company in canada right in diverse TOronto There are about 950 employees at my company but only 4 black males.

That's it 4 black males, one is in it, one is in mail room, and another breh and then theres me. That's it. There are a bunch of black women though proably like 25-30 and some are in management etc.

You can have the skill, and all that but being black your not getting hired. I know I got lucky and blessed.

It's the same at my company, breh. We have a few older Black men. But, I can count on one hand the number of younger Black men we have. It's crazy.

Actually black engineers need to join NSBE. Companies go to NSBE with the intent to hire blacks so there is no competing with suzie, Tom, Wang, shabir and the rest for a gig.

Breh, the untold story is some of those companies go to the NSBE conferences just to save face. They don't plan to really hire any Black folks. Lockheed, Boeing and those types are the exceptions for the reasons other have mentioned. But, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Facebook, etc. aren't really interested in NSBE conferences. They'd rather grab a nikka from Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, and call it a day.

A lot of Black folks from Morehouse and Spelman do end up at Harvard for different graduate programs. It's not that hard to get into Harvard's graduate programs outside its MBA, Medical and Law programs. :manny:
