Nah dog. This is basically what I saw play out the first game the Jets faced them. I saw the Jets force dude into making safe throws and in doing so, the Jets defense controlled the game. I long told you about dudes fear of making the risky throw will hold him back. Dude is "one read....hit the checkdown!!" If a guy isn't WIDE open...he isn't throwing the ball.
like Ive said before, I dont believe in settling for safe throws being a bad thing. I simply dont believe in the concept of having to make risky throws just for the sake of making risky throws or building up confidence, ideologically.

Yeah but you have to throw the ball down the field so defenses cant cram the box... E.J. Manuel is a checkdown ass nikka...

I'm sorry...but on 3rd and long, settling for the safe throw is basically giving in

it helps, but its not making or breaking the qb if he isnt making long throws.

I remember Ive said the same goddamn thing in matt flynn thread and dudes got on me like I was actually defending flynn, who is garbage :heh:

ej's problems arent from being timid or not throwing deep (which he still does, occasionally, when its one on one situation)...its just he brings nothing to the table, he neither makes good decisions nor does he have a good short passing game.

3rd and 4 to 6 yards, dude is averaging 3.4 ypa.

• Only five quarterbacks graded negatively on 3rd-and-Medium: Tony Romo, Matt Cassel, Case Keenum, Sam Bradford, and E.J. Manuel

Dude is safety first

no its not. plenty of 3rd and 4th downs have been made on a safe throw, courtesy of receiver or the RB. joe flacco should know this, ray rice basically saved his ass with 4th and 29 was it ?
Id bet anything ravens wouldnt have made that if flacco was just to chuck it deep

in fact, on 3rd and long (like 15 long), against a good D, on your own half, there is nothing better to do than settle for a safe throw if nothing is clearly open. its called common sense. nothing good will come out of a 7 step drop play where qb is desperately trying to get the first down on 3rd and 15

its kinda funny, same people calling for a risky throw and letting the receiver fight for the ball and 'sort it out' are the same people who scoff at throwing a short ass pass to a receiver or RB and let them 'sort it out'

Yes...it is...it shows an inability to go to a second read for one. That second read may not even be that risky. Two...it's not taking a chance and giving your team an opportunity to keep the chains moving when you throw short of the sticks.

I disagree about him staring down his receiver on that play. He looked left then came back right and threw the ball.
I don't. dude stared down cats on those drops. Even patting the ball before he threw it.

reb, this convo isnt going anywhere, really. we have diametrically opposite view of what qbs should do

Im not trying to say ej is good.

Im just saying being safe is not bad. not taking risks is not bad. not taking risks will not prevent you from becoming good if you make good decisions and are accurate on short passes.

I still remember when the speculation started he would go rnd 1, couldnt believe it. And some team next yr will repeat that mistake by taking Winston and Hundley in 1.

Dog...you think the guy that almost picked him off is wrong. So of course you're going to say that about me.

huh? fukk are you talking about? QBs get their passes batted down all the time...nothing a big deal
