Why are atheists so obsessed with religion?

I fully acknowledge the possibility of there being a creator. I'm not arrogant enough to say that there definitely isnt one.
I just don't think that any of candidates brought forth so far (Greek Gods, Egyptian gods, Christian gods) fit the bill. And I doubt we'll see this creator in any of our lifetimes
True arrogance however is claiming to know how the world was created and worse yet how it will end, with no proof other than religious text made by man.

I'm not sure I have ever heard an atheist say they don't care about religion it's that they don't like the influence religion has.
For me it's not that I hate religion or religious people. It's Black Americans that are Christians I don't get. I'll get flamed for this on this board but most Black Americans don't look at their own history to realize Whites beat Christianity into Blacks during slavery, Africans pre slavery couldn't be further away from christianity with a pan theistic view of the world. 
I completely get the Nation of Islam movement among militant Blacks as that's the closest religion to Africa during pre Slavery events.

Wasn't christianity always in Africa though?
Not until whites brought it over on boats. Persians conquered Northern Africa before that and brought the teachings of Islam with them but did not enslave them in the same way that's whites did.

Whenever I hear a Black person go on about "God" I just know some bullshyt regarding race relations is about to come out of their mouth.
