My name is generic as fukk...last name is Irish and a derivative of an old Gaelic surname. First name is really old Latin and not really "racial" like Hunter/Brett or Jamal/Ahmad.

No one really knows what or who to expect when I show up. Sometimes that's good and sometimes it's not.

Depends on what you mean by Black name.

Are we talking names like "Jerome" that have been assumed to be Black names (even though they're British/Irish in origin), names like Muhammad and Jamal that were picked up by a lot of Afro-centrists in the 70s and 80s, or the longer original names like Shanautica and Ci'Ericka?

Its probably because of class - we assume Black people with the latter names are working-class or poor, grew up in poor environments, or are largely undereducated - and we associate all things with them. Its a way for Black people who are closer to the white ideal to feel like they can look down on someone.

Some of the new post 1995 names are just goofy.
Half the names are rooted in the Arabic language...
The other half... the prefixes are rooted in african naming rituals that resurfaced during the black power 70s.
