OT is convenient if you are saving for some splurge item: Sneakers, Watch, vacation, engagement ring, etc. I've worked with dudes who did it around Christmas time to buy more/better gifts for their kids. Beyond that, that extra 10 hrs/week is better invested in training for a higher paying career or new position. 10hrs/week learning a new skill can be worth way more than the OT pay longterm. As said earlier in the thread working 10hrs of overtime every week isn't going to drastically change your lifestyle financially. It can negatively affect your social life and emotional wellbeing though. OT is not a financial come-up, never was.
OK, I'm going to partially debunk what I said before. If you take that OT money and invest in some high risk asset that ultimately blows up, then those OT hours become gamechanging. Emphasis on the qualifier, "High Risk".
I don't know if it still exists, but there use to be a thing where if a holiday occurred on a day you were working OT hours the 1.5x pay turned into 2x pay. Now, that was nice.
