I think a lot of young people have basically said "fukk it, I'll never afford a house and I'm not willing to compromise my own integrity and wellness to aim for that", and I honestly respect it.

They're not playing the same game previous generations did. There was somewhat of a "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow for them if they stuck it out at a crap job and retired.

Very few employers can convince me to sacrifice myself with the promise of greater things ahead. I don't believe them, I don't care enough and I will jump ship the first chance I get. That's the game and everybody is honestly just looking out for themselves

Can’t blame them except when they are very good at the career they selected.

I think that's the key, picking a field or industry that gives you the lifestyle and balance that you need. Money might come later

I seen so many folks get into finance and banking because of the prestige, but guess what, that shyt is designed to have you working long hours for someone else's benefit so that a door might open for you. That ain't for everyone, and many burn out cause they can't handle it

Maybe something would make you happier and you might *gasp* actually enjoy what you do.

I've learned that a lower salary job that gives you time for yourself/family/friends, your interests and hobbies, and maybe time to work on a personal project or venture >>>> corporate salary ratrace

Young folks want all the prestige, but get disengaged when they have to sacrifice their own wants or ideals to get there. That's a bitter pill to swallow, and you might need to compromise a bit too

Exactly…….

Dealing with it now with people I manage. Very willing to cruise and do the minimum but had a million questions with they got a nominal annual raise.

Gen Z realizes overtime is a waste of time and isn't going to bring someone out of poverty or above middle class

If you're job pays 41k and you work overtime guess what? Your still poor

The better solution would be to leave that job for one that pays more, hence why kids are so quick to leave jobs
In my mid 30's and while it is expensive, came to the conclusion that my time was better spent finishing a degree than working two jobs. The smart play is to get in somewhere that pays you what 3 lower skill, lower demand jobs would have. I love predictable hours, stable team of coworkers, and the free time. Not to mention another job would fukk me up in terms of taxes.

People are just lazy breh. Nevermind all the bullshyt "Oh the younger generations want to live a better quality life" These young nikkas running around not doing shyt, same with the chicks. They're not skipping out on work to do fly shyt and live life. All that takes money. A lot of them are just lazy.

people with 50k post on a forum or hours on end clocked on their web browser talking about "what about my social life :damn:"

I don't think the mindset is strictly a younger generational thing, tho. If the older generation (their parents, some of us) was so big on overtime/stacking money till you stroke out themselves, wouldn't these kids have been raised in better situations that would have probably set them up to have more than $0 net worth today?

Nothing wrong maximizing your $$$ but at the same time I'm with the "work sucks" crowd so I can't be mad at anybody not wanting to do that shyt at a shytty job/multiple shytty jobs for 70+ hours a week. Especially if there's a good chance you still end up poor. Smarter not harder.

Yeah ya'll in this thread are missing the point, and projecting on ya'll personal lives that "overtime is a scam" lol

He just got his CDL B with 5 months experience, and already demanding a higher pay

- I told him he can work overtime at his job he's at now, he's like "Oh nah, I don't want to work that much hours"
- I told him the jobs that pay more are the ones that are refrigerated jobs that involve hand unloading off of the truck like Produce delivery, Milk Delivery, Beverage Delivery. He's like "Oh nah, those jobs are the ones that involve physical labor"

I'm sitting on the phone with him like :why::manny:

At the post office when you first get hired they hit you with 13 straight 12 hour days during busy seasons, mandatory. Multiple times in a one busy season too. Outside of that it's 6 12's every week. So I soured on OT. When you become regular it isn't mandatory anymore but most of the regulars NEVER do OT after that lol. Only the ones that either hate going home or got alimony or some shyt. And that shyt got them nothing but fukked up knees and multiple surgeries.
