Why Do Cubans Hate Castro So Much

There's a passage in the Auto bio of Malcolm X that briefly mentions Castro. That's the book that the widest section of Black men I've met have read so I assume many if not all here have read it.

Castro was to speak at the UN...State Department confined him and his delegation to Manhattan island....so he and his people stay at the Theresa Hotel in Harlem. Made a lasting impression on Black folks in New York.

He was disliked by White Cubans because he stopped the ill treatment of Black Cubans. He wanted ALL Cubans to receive equal treatment. There was even the Mob in Havana.

Batista's policies were based on capitalism. It's ironic Castro was anti capitalist considering he was from a wealthy Spaniard family that owned a lot of land.

Yeah true. It's better for them to govern themselves instead of having U.S.imposed democracy. And it's true that the U.S.would suck Cuba dry. They'll take over businesses like they did before the revolution. Democracy isn't an overnight thing. The process is long but can be done if done correctly. Cuba has plenty of resources to offer for trade. And I agree that Cuba has one of the best education systems in the world. High percent literacy rate and everything. As far as trade is concerned, yeah obviously it won't help anyone but the elites. But what would be the benefit of that? It'll turn into a 1% thing. I think the embargo being lifted could help and hurt them. Goods being made more available but to a certain portion of the population, kind of like the U.S. I think those other countries struggle because of the differences between communism and democracy. It's a completely different process.

Democracy is easily manipulated, we live in a so called democracy and look at how quickly it's going to shyt here. The only true democracy is a direct democracy not this representative bullshyt we have that was set up during a time it took weeks for someone to get from Pennsylvanian to South Carolina. Cuba would need to be weened off communism very slowly, or have capitalism introduced in certain sectors but regulated so that foreigners cannot come in and fukk over Cubans. The Cuban govt. has done a lot of wrong, but keeping foreigners at bay from raping the country (specifically US) has been something that has helped that island more than anyone in the news is willing to admit. They would need to have that same mindset with industry & capitalism as they do now keeping the US out, which is - Cubans first. If Cuba attaining democracy is the goal, they should never look to America for help, Canada is who they should use as their example of a socialist democracy.

Also, I know those are your people, but the example of what you don't want Cuba to become is sitting about 760 miles away in Puerto Rico, a country that has $20 billion more in GDP, yet has a murder rate 4x that of Cuba, a lower literacy rate and worse healthcare. The 1% in Puerto Rico suck the US dikk and leave nothing for the rest of the population, with unregulated capitalism the same thing would happen in Cuba but worse, since they wouldn't be under the umbrella of commonwealth.

Yeah true on Puerto Rico. I got friends from there and they say the country has been going to shyt lately. High crime rate, high drug use, poverty increasing, everything. And it's ironic cuz they have a smaller population. Like a third of cuba.

My understanding is that during the revolution and immediately after the revolution, it was split among racial lines between support and opposition for castro. White cubans, particularly the wealthy who benefitted from the corruption of Batista, hated him while the poor which was made up via racial oppression of black cubans loved him. The black cubans had rightful grievances given how racist the Batista regime was. Just for example, black citizens couldn't go to normal hospitals for healthcare. They had to go to local catholic charitable organizations to get help. You had black Cubans literally dying in the street and not allowed in hospitals.

Now, the feelings is mixed. Castro spent his goodwill earned among the poor mostly black Cubans by jailing political prisoners of all types and post-revolution life not being that great.

The embargo had a lot to do with that.

There was a documentary that I saw years and years ago. I haven't been able to recall the name of it or see anything close to it on video sites.

Doc. about the Haitian and Cuban communities in Miami, Florida..comparing and contrasting U.S. policies towards the countries and how they've fared in southern Florida. Aired first on pbs in maybe mid 1990s.

He did a lot of good things. Killed some regime sympathizers early on in his power.

Since then basically had everything negative be overblown and everything positive ignored by the west.

Imo was a good leader who survived through a lot of outside interference. But like most leaders was not perfect, at east morally.

Forward, With Fidel, Anywhere

Like I said in the other post.....I wasn't sure if he was pandering to the Afro-Cubans by saying that...but his words were a HUGE departure from the rhetoric of past Cuban and Latin American leaders who acted as though Africans didn't exist in the gene pool or culture of their countries.

This is the example I was thinking of but I believe that there are other public statements. Was not sure if he was speaking literally or figuratively.

Talking about Angola my Grandad almost got his wig split by Cuban soldiers in Angola, then his son(my uncle) joined FNLA(Rival party of MPLA supported by Cubans) after killing some Portuguese dude with a metal bar he was gonna serve prison time but was convinced to join FNLA long story short my uncle refused to take orders he suddenly got shot to death by a British Mercenary. Fidel and Che are well loved in Angola especially from the MPLA supporters, my Grandad was on the losing side so he pretty much hated them both and Cuba.
