The church never actually separated from the state but just pretended to separate itself so that they could take their influential might to the media where they have misused television for decades to continuously refresh Christian false teachings in the minds of Americans - atheist and theist alike. You Christians disgust me
:stopitslime:
That's rather interesting. I feel you on that. It seems that although there appears to be a separation b/w the two the church maintains its influence because it shapes the ideologies of "the people." So even separate they have have vast and far reaching influence as far as the psyche of people. Funny because schools like Harvard and Yale were founded for the purpose of educating clergy and politicians. Hmmmm

Hell go read the about the influence of the clergy and the role of religion on the peoples on British separatist, and how greatly they influenced people before and during the American Revolution. Here's one from 1913 it would behoove many to read.

Just think you get off Saturday and Sunday...know why...because those are said to be the holy days of the Hebrews and Christians respectively. The rest of the 5 days you are expecting to serve/work. That's the churches influence.

We say its 2017, but thats BC/AD...who says any of that is real. But you accept it as reality, and you even celebrate the new year according to their calendar. Thats the churches influence.

And most of us don't question it whatsoever.

No it's not :dahell:
You don't even live in the US. :mjlol:
This country is incredibly religious, Pentecostal churches are popping like this is the third world.
Evangelicalism literally runs the conservative coalition of politicians.
There are still court battles to take evolution and portions of physics and biological theory out of textbooks.
Women's reproductive rights are in a stranglehold due to religious dogma.
Gay marriage was just legalized and sodomy laws were just removed in the last few years.

I ain't the most religious person but the black community was much more tight knit when the church was at the center
When the "community" was smaller, forced to live together in small enclaves, under the much more ever-present threat of violence from the KKK, segregated fully, far-poorer, and attached out of necessity.
Yeah, lets go back to being tight-knit and a legal underclass :russ:

America is "so" religious because what happened in Europe did not happen here.

It's all in the Socio-historical/chronological context.

Also, 'religiosity' isn't necessarily a negative thing. Look at Russia/China/North Korea/Cuba/etc.

Ask yourself this: If 'religion' is so bad, why is it that those who believe religion is harmful have caused more harm to humanity in trying to get rid of it in the past 100 years than ALL religions.....COMBINED......in the past 3,000 years????

Making comparisons between religious "wars" and religious governments at war is one of absolute foolishness.

You don't even have to go back that far. I grew up during the crack era and shyt is different from then. We used to know everybody in the neighborhood, had block parties, and still had to watch what we said and did around certain neighbors becuz they would call our mothers. We used to have real communities

as you can see, for developed country the US is disproportionately religious, and is an outlier.

the US is as religious as Turkey! :picard:.

Religion is usually a poor country's illness.

Our elected officials can't get elected w/o mentioning God. We swear on the Bible for legal cases. In God we trust is on our money. Our president ends his speeches with"good bless America". We house some of most populous and diverse collection of religions in human history. Large chunks of the nation govern the personal lives of its citizens based on their religious views. Some regions still prohibit the buying and selling of alcohol on the "Lord's day".

:gucci:how are we not a religious country

There's Sharia law in Europe. What are you even talking about....

:mjlol:

Anyways as an outsider the US seems similar to some muslim countries always talking about God/"morality"/decency" and all that. Europe has moved away (generally speaking) from religion because we've had centuries of wars (not attacks or battles, WARS) fought over religion, terrible Inquisition years, scientists/minorities/women being tortured/exiled/killed because of religion, etc. Ironically some current White Americans are probably descendents of euro religious refugees. Also there have been various revolutions in Europe, and many have meant going against whoever was in power AND the church, who was always working hand in hand with the former.

So with all that I guess most Euros have in mind the dangers of having religion at the forefront and meddling with power, we've seen enough in a sense. US is just much younger than Euro countries, and in a totally different geographical/historical context (which is why comparing both rarely works).

Quantify "religious" first and foremost... People say that since there are a lot of churches in the states, that America must be religious, which is asinine

Pan Africanism
Christianity was used as a justification for slavery/white supremacy. Hard to shake something like that culturally. Then it started making money which is the TRUE God of America.
I'll like to add that the Westernized Christians use Christianity as a cover for their own capitalistic agenda. For example, why there's a reason why you see pastors telling their members to live one way. However, the pastors live in contrary to what they preach.
