But also the conversation about tanking has gotten so big that people don’t seem to understand that some teams are just genuinely bad. Like even if every team tried their best to put in the most competitive team possible regardless of if it only strengthens them in the short-term, there’s still gonna be trash teams.

It is what it is.
This.

The Pistons finally were bad, and guess what? They have stars now.

People don't seem to get that teams aren't bad just because.

The gap between top teams and even mid level teams is large. A bad team trying hard to compete won't ever win shyt :mjlol: the whole point of giving high picks to bad teams is to help them, or else they will be bad forever

Just leave it be.

Why is tanking so bad?

It's the only way to get a top prospect. Otherwise you'll be stuck being mediocre for a decade.

The Bulls wouldn't be a storied franchise if they weren't able to get a high pick in Michael Jordan after being bad.
When has it ever led to a championship outside of Tim Duncan?

You get a prospect, but the idea that tanking guaranteeing success just ain't true. If that was the case Cleveland wouldn't have needed Bron to return or the Kings would be a marquee team by now or Pistons been would've been good. It's just a tactic for GMs to ensure their position in a notoriously fickle league when it comes to FO employees.

The Warriors tanked to get Wiseman and won a championship :troll:

It at least gives them a chance.

Imagine if tanking/the lottery didn't exist the past decade. What would the pelicans have done after Chris Paul left? They wouldn't have gotten Anthony Davis and then zion.

Did they win a chip with AD? no. Did they win yet with Zion? Not so far.

But they had a chance, and it gave them intrigue. Without a tank/lottery system, what would they have been? Some treadmill team?

This shoulda been put in place when the Cavs got the #1 overall pick three out of four years when LeBron left the first time. That was absolute bullshyt.

This is the biggest issue with tanking. It's one thing to put together a trash roster or trade your best players away. It's another when they're sitting out half their team with "back soreness" once the All-Star break hits.
So you'd like teams to play injured players? Back injuries are serious and can lead to long term repercussions. The draft already doesn't reward tanking as it once did.

I think it's lazy. The Celtics ain't purposely tank. They made it work by making moves and ended up with Tatum and Jaylen. The Warriors didn't tank to get Steph or Klay. Milwaukee ain't tank for Giannis. I don't remember Memphis tanking for Ja. Same with Denver and Joker.

The percentage of actually being successful is not the home run it's made to seem vs trying to be a competent GM and make moves.
