DOG!

Ok let's say a black person does this.

1. They are not able to get a loan to open up there own business

2. They need to rely on white people hiring them, they will just hire a white person.

3. All they can do is get a trade and work for white people.....

1. Get a loan at a black owned bank?

2. Find a black tradesman thats wiling to let you work with him to complete the hours

3. Work as a journeyman, and do work for black ppl

Pics of some of your work?
I'm not a carpenter but I'm appalled it's not revered or respected in the poll. I'm hoping to become a teacher while I moonlight as a filmmaker.

I don't think so, but some women (no specific race) look down on tradesmen for some reason

But if the pay is there (which it usually is) then what's the problem?

It's mostly just American Women in general that look down upon it but also Women from certain countries like Eastern Europe as well.

Older black people seem to think that another degree is a remedy to everything. Be a career student brehs

When I was unemployed after undergrad dumb ass old buffoons had the nerve to suggest getting another degree. I'm like yeah pay my undergrad loans and you got it :laff:

also pushed down the throat of prisoners/inmates.... those dudes need to learn a trade because it will be hard ass fukk for them to use a degree and get hired (if black )

Exactly I don't know what the policy is for the trades but I'm sure it's more lax than corporate.

My mom's cousin just redid our entire basement. Fixed up the plumbing, wiring, painting and everything. I told her to tell them that I'd liked to work or learn from him about that stuff, dude's a legit genius when comes to multiple trades.

It doesn't take much to work for yourself doing a trade

This my third week in the plumbing Union, I have my training center interview next week

I had Votech in high school and I wish the workin life was explained more

Office life sucks but in trades it's a different, no HR so you have to know when to stfu but still stand up for yourself, hot physical work

I def need to get my muscles up cuz I had trouble holding this hog ass hammer drill

I dgaf what race my journeyman is as long as they teach me...my foreman is an old white dude but he is very patient

I def am going to start working out so I can step my game up...cuz right now I suck at drilling through dirt to make holes for the pipe

I'm 27, wish I started earlier

Most young black people I know lack the knowledge about the trade scene because its seen as "old school work."

Where Im at in the south its mostly people from the West Indes, mexicans and rednecks who do trades.

So I wouldn't say they are against, its just not on their radar based on what Ive seen.

same here or unless you have family that do that stuff like an uncle or something

Black people are underrepresented in almost everything, of course they won't be as heavily in some of the trades as white people. You'll see more in a blacker city.

We've talked about this before, about how more black men should consider trades. Especially if you're doing some menial shyt like fast food, warehouse job, retail etc. You go to trade school or a CC that offers trades then you can be eating WAY better. Also if you get good enough at it and build up enough capital and clientele you can possibly start your own business.

I def agree that it's slept on. I do know some black men here and there who went to school to learn a trade but it's a lot more common among white guys and hispanics, as OP said. Especially among my age bracket. If you've ever been to the orientations or took the classes, it is fairly noitceable, he's not lying. Even i was thinking, "yo i thought there'd be more bros here". There's a defnite gap there. I think a lot of bros prefer jobs that dont require you to get your hands as dirty but if I had to pick, I'd rather work hard doing a trade (something that pays you decent to good wages for your labor) than work hard making min wage and getting treated like a bytch.

Also, a lot of these dudes my age were raised by single mothers, and don't know anything about fixing stuff and don't want to learn. Some rather be on the cash register or on the phone than really get their hands dirty doing hard labor. Not knocking them but a lot of it is hustling backwards imo. If you been at McDonalds or somewhere making low wages and plus you aren't even a damn manager yet, you got nothing to lose, literally, you might as well save the money you were gonna use on J's and clothes and save it to enroll in some classes to learn a trade.

As for Asians, I don't usually see a lot of them being plumbers, electricians, mechanics, construction, etc but they still eat good because they usually do the business thing through their stores and restaurants. We need to step it up in every aspect, idgaf if nikkas on here get mad, it's true.

Did you get an apprenticeship when you first started out?
