Face is a top tier lyricist and the equal or even superior of anyone you could name from the east. You naming chamillionaire as opposed to someone like Mr. Mike tells me you don't know all that much about Southern rap, and that's alright. But you shouldn't seek to disparage it.

Scarface wasn't dropping nothing in 06-08 unless you talking about the "my block" single, which was hard. The Midwest has more LYRICISTS than the entire south during that era. Lupe,Kanye,Common,Rhymefest,Royce Da 5'9, Eminem, Obie Trice, Twista, Bone Thugs

you're talking about a 2 yr period when the man has been dropping music for over 30 years. nobody you named has the consistency and discography of that man. outkast was lyrical, but like i said before your naming chamillionaire as a top southern lyricist tells me what you know of real southern rap. you've probably never even heard any of South Circle or Mr. Mike's music, and since you've never heard them there's really no need to try to put you up on anyone else because you're biased. you just named three commercial acts. that's lazy and even a little dishonest because you're speaking authoritatively on something you don't know all that much about.

besides you can be a LYRICIST and still make weak ass music overall, which describes alotta east coast music. any if the South did disappear yall would still be up in NY biting other regions and imitating the west coast gangs. and getting cozy with jews, so nothing would change or improve. we would just have to look to the West for the real.

90's. Althight ironically, that's when people were calling some rappers sellouts or crossover acts.

You had underground cats that bubbled and became mainstream they had success and respect from most ppl (Biggie, Nas, Pac, Snoop, Wu, Onyx)

You had underground cats: Jeru, The Liks, 3-6 Mafia, Common, The Roots, UGK Tribe (close to mainstream)

Straight mainstream: Kris Kross, Fugees (artuably could be in first category)

Notice that u had ppl that earned their stripes from undergeound to mainstream and there's a good regional mix. They developed as an artist before you even heard an album from them so when u heard the album it had a higher chance of sounding polished and good after u already heard their raw ability through opening shows, features and singles.

Cole aan Kendrick also started underground and thas part of why they have staying power.

After the 90's the tales got tipped and the underground became more and more devalued.
